I am suspicious about this fuel. Shell will not be specific about the octane level and do not print it in their brochure, they also have it listed with the BS7800 mark for fuel with an octane rating of 97RON,the little graphic of the zooming car full of Optimax TM was illustrating a very big performance difference. If they achieve that it is a miracle.... My Griff ran rough and hot on it, something it has never done before (honest ) When I found old 98 RON at a BP station up north at the start of the year, the griff ran like a dream, don''t think this was the same stuff. The car is now happier with a tank of BP 97RON.

I've been running it all week with no trouble at all. The only problem is an increased tendency for my car to spin its wheels in 2nd and 3rd. (not entirely true - we blew the headgasket on the race engine last weekend at Combe with the new fuel, but I can't honestly blame it all on the fuel although it may have been a contributing factor) The original literature stated that the octance level was 98.4RON and given the extra mpg I managed initially I would be inclined to agree with this figure (consistent with the difference 95 and 97 ron unleaded). What I have heard is that the local scooby users have noticed a definite drop in performance - which begs the question of what is in the fuel that would cause this to happen.
