"Range Rover is the most capable vehicle in the world" Yeah right!!! I'd like to see it go against a hummer, and see them make the same comment...

My cousin served in the Gulf, and was regularly out in the desert, in his trusty Land Rover, along side the Hummers.

The wide tyres on the Hummer meant it almost never got bogged down in the sand. However, compared to the Landies they were very slow and despite gettting stuck occasionally, the Landies were quicker.

Obviously the same isn't neccessarily true for the Range Rover, but I want one anyway.

Before you all get into a pissing contest (RR v Hummer) one of the new Range Rovers (in light cladding) came past me on the M6 a couple of weeks ago - let's just say that even the Discovery drivers were afraid! This guy must've been doing 90 or so, and when the Disco moved over he left him for dead. Okay, that's not saying much - but obviously it accelerates well at 'cruising' speeds.

Any idea of what the engines are? Is it still the Rover V8 or a Ford one? Likewise is the diesel still a BMW unit or one of Uncle Henry's Rattlers (or even a development of the TD5 'Storm'?)

One of the motoring new sites (maybe Auto-Express) said that they were phasing out the Rover V8 for a BMW V8, although Ford are trying hard to get one of their state-side units ready too

What sort of use is a 3 litre diesel in that size of Luxury 4x4?

I've run plenty of diesel 4x4's in my time, from a 'utilitarian' Hi-Lux pick up, to a 4.2 TD Landcruiser, and never understood the old RR having a 2.5.

They should at least have an option of a larger oil burner.

Also, as Guy said, if this 3litre is a Ford unit, it'll tun like a bag of knackers.

Just looked it up:
AutoExpress say 4.4 BMW V8 & 3.0 TD six

4car say that as well as these, versions of the Jaguar V8 and Aston V12 are possibilities, although this looks like something they've conjured up as they don't mention a source for the info

Ok, the new RR.

Independent suspension front and rear,OK

Surely won't be most capable off roader with this kind of suspension, but how many RR owners do off road with their new RR.

I hope that the diesel engine isn't BMW, because them we have a new episode of the "Broken in High Way".

One more question, what was the aim to build this new vehicle, to serve people with luxury or luxury to serve people. I'am a LR 'nut'

On a more positive note, that has to be one of the most inviting interiors to be seen in recent years.....

Certainly a monster of an improvement over the last incarnation...
