RE: Mclaren Mercedes SLR

OK, saw the pictures and thought - ugly bonnet looks too stretched and all out of proportion. Doesn't have grace or muscle at all.
On the M25 this morning got passed by one (in its silly "camoflage" paint scheme. Totally changed my mind when seen int he fleah it's all in proportion and looks really right and clean, just so much better than all the pictures.
Still not may favourite, give me a Gallardo or T400R any day but a lot better than I thought it would be.

Yuk. Daft car. Imagine trying to get out of a side road with it? ultimate in "my bonnet is bigger than yours" maybe, but how pointless. Tiddly cabin perched at the back, who thinks of these things? Like something a child would draw, or some Manga fantasy machine gone wrong. Nope, waste of money, and hopefully an evolutionary deadend.
oh and those wheels, ok i don't know, but jusy a guess, they look like fan like, so when they spin they'll suck the air out over the discs, cooling the discs and increasing downforce, i don't know, it's just a guess, but it sounds very mclaren
Nah ... BMW were there about 10 years ago with the first E34 M5. The alloy wheels were in two parts ... the cover part was designed like a fan to suck air onto the brake discs.
I personally think Gordon Murray has sold out ... to design a "supercar" that is only available with an auto. transmission !?! Shame on him for going along with the same arrogance that has plagued MB's performance cars over the last few years.
Ian.

Couldn't've put it better myself X5.... Over detailed, clash of styles and themes...F1 nose, 300SL/SLR midrift...The theory was there, I even like the idea of the long bonnet-engine behind the axle idea, but hte translation seems to want to shock rather than to drool... like so many other designs of late.
Bangle tries hard I'll give him that, but if anyone other than BMW had tried Flame surfacing those companies would be going to the wall. Like Fiat Coupe... a mass of wonderful detailing from diffferent eras shoved together, a designer that can talk the talk and a public left wondering why must've happened at the design meetings...
