Anyone else find that funny?

Just me then?biggrin
I thought that was funny too but got here late.

As for the Whipple name, IIRC Art Whipple was the US importer of the Swedish Autorotor supercharger. He marketed them with the Whipple name Stateside. I believe he actually called them Whipplechargers at first; more recently, I believe, Whipple Superchargers.

Surely this car is a joke. An Ultima GTR720 can be had for something like £40,000 if you build it yourself, or £65,000 from the factory. Its also a lot lighter, and a lot faster.

What a waste this car is.
If you buy everything (exc engine) from Ultima the parts alone will cost you £50k +
To get reliable 720bhp from an LS7 (that means changed internals, decent ECU, Kinsler or forced induction etc) will cost you around £25k for the engine alone - slightly more if you go the SBC route.

I'd rather have a proper 'bespoke' Ford GT......you can have a 'brand new' Ford GT MkII built from scratch by Holman&Moody complete down to correct detail '66 spec including a proper NASCAR 427 side-oiler.......oh yes please thumbup

If its that exclusive how come it`s not got carbon ceramic brakes.

I`d say it`ll need em.

I would have called it the Avro 720 VULCAN. That would have been awesome. Inherent in the name would be the ability to drive all the way to Ascension Island...

Plenty of 302 / 289 reps at the Spa6:

Funny thing is, they're'nt THAT fast. Proper Etypes pass 'em easily.

Exclusive?? Looks like they just rooted through the max power bin and charged a hefty premium.
looks more like they`ve rooted through the racing and rallying catalogue more like as u will find these parts on race cars and not on your average max power car. a set of 8pot ap racing brakes alone for one of those will be well in excess of £5000 so not exactly halfords. check out various motorsport.

and that ultima? really who needs all those guages? no-one and not EVEN race cars.

Advertising is a wonderful thing isn't it?
The prices quoted are for base models, you can add a fair bit more for the flagship GTR720 yes

The engine parts to take a Ford GT to 700 hp can be had for about $2.5K. You definitely don't need a new supercharger, just change to a 2.7" pulley + a few other bits. Add another $4.5K and you can have headers and a cat back exhaust which will net 750 HP. I can only imagine what the price is for this "special edition" ...

1. Pick up a copy of Autocar
2. Look at the test results for a Golf GTi Mk V
3. Look at the mpg figure for test/touring
4. You see that test figure of 8.5? Yes, 8 point bloody 5!
5. Even the test figure for a Beetle TDi is 21mpg!
5. Take the Ford GT's mpg figure in context....and....relax.

Same applies for many of their test cars so let's keep that context camera running when Jezza is screwing a car into the tarmac for fun.

Service performed.

Incidentally, a friend of mine on the Mustang forum just completed a 177 mile journey in his Mustang 4.6 and with gentle driving (and this was an automatic), returned 34 mpg. Eat your heart out European hot hatches.

Short? Compared with what?

I know there are others but was the GT40 built with that much power in mind??? Is it really going to be stable at 220mph?
Yes. Ford set a limiter at 205mph due to tyre ratings. The standard test car did 212mph with no issues.

Can't help but think it's a marketing exercise after the 600RE, when they saw how many people would pay more for extra exclusivity...
What have they done compared to the 600RE, painted it orange, turned up the wick on the supercharger and named the components while flicking through a dictionary... scratchchin
Yup I agree pure marketing. The bits they (well Roush most probably) put on it are good quality though. The new supercharger is about 15% more efficient without using a smaller pulley. Shame Mr Avro bought a load of them a few months ago, before the version 2 came out smile.

Drive both for a couple of hours and then say that. Oh and that's GT40 you mean obviously.

Standard brakes are more than up to the job. Whole of Isle of Man GP course chasing an LP640, 2 up with a weeks worth of lugage didn't seem to fase mine. The AP jobs they're using are more than enough.

As for MPG....We went all the way from London to the Isle of Man, 'pressing on' most of the way (late due to the M1 being shut, so big cross country thrash + M6 at, er, speed), around the Isle a number of times driven how it's supposed to be, then something over 0.7 leptons all the way back. Average MPG for the trip? 20.2. Jeremy and his 3 to the gallon was on the TG track driving flat out for most of the day.

@LuS1fer: what's all the petrolfilling up for then? Claxon had to stop every other minute . . .

As for big cubes and mpg: a friend did a 35 mpg in a . . . . Z06. Thanx to the tall gearing.

Ah well if TG presented it as being thirsty then it must be true and not to over-egg an old pudding. wink

A quick look at the internet will give you the answer:
The Ford GT fuel tank takes 17.5 US gallons (14.5 UK gallons), has an official consumption of 12/19 city/touring USmpg (14.4/22.8 UKmpg)and an average range of 221 miles.
The Ferrari F430 has a fuel tank capacity of 25.1 US gallons (20.9 UK gallons) and an official consumption of 11 (13.2)/16 (19.2)and an average range, despite being more thirsty, of 294 miles.

Ergo despite better fuel efficiency, the real culprit is the GT's small fuel tank which is a failing but not one based on economy. It's also easy to see why the GT would run dry after a relatively short period of being flogged to death on the TG proving ground. I imagine any car in this bracket would drink the same.
