RE: New Vauxhall Insignia
Discussion
According to AutoExpress (well they do sometimes get it right) this car is 4.82 metres long, that's 15'10" and 21cm longer than the Vectra it replaces, but the wheel-base is only 5cm more - so longer overhangs.
Why are cars getting so big? I, and a number of my friends, have down-sized to get away from this. An Accord to a Civic, Vectra to an Astra and Mondeo to a Focus. One other friend went from a 5-series to an Alfa 159. All say that ride comfort is not so good but that seems to be the only major disadvantage. None really needed the room of the larger cars although with the replacement cars boot space is sometimes a bit of a squeeze. However, the reduced cost was partly offset by going for higher spec. models.

Same thing here, at my company we have peugeot's . I have a 307sw and that thing is just HUGE inside. It takes more luggage than a Zafira, BMW 3 and the likes. Why are cars getting so big? The 407sw isn't any bigger, just has a much longer nose. Don't get the point of the huge cars they make today, you can get your bicicle (one of the biggest things I regulary transport) in a Golf Variant without any problem. Can anyone explain why the Vectra (which was a very big car) just got that much bigger?
Better than the present one, but what's with the Mondeo-matching upsize to whale proportions?
Would make a nice stealth car with a dechrome, satin paint and nickel-finish muthas for wheels.
Oops sorry 'bout that – I must stop drooling over Custom Car mag's Yanks...
Still, I do wonder about sizes – I rented a Mondeo recently, and it was a pig to find slottable street niches for it.

Not too positive i'm afraid!!
Though i'll concede, it does look better in that first shot of this story...

Looks pretty good to me - looks like car designers are finally starting to edge away from the nasty bold designs that this decade has produced, the new mondeo/vectra are far far far better looking than the previous generation mondeo/vectra imo
Now if they can reverse the trend of the tall mono-box styling that plagues the civic sized class then we'll be laughing!

I rather like it, I mean compare it to its competetion,
Mondeo
3 series
passat
407
A4
accord
laguna
c5
159
only the C5 and 159 look nicer imo (wait for heckling......),
If the pricing follows the usual Vauxhall trend (30% off list if you have any sense), then it will be a bargain, reserving judgement until it comes out, but a 4wd 260bhp, sounds good to me, add some tuning, 300 bhp+
wonder what it will look like with some sport kit, I am sure VXR will produce a Super Chav version, but Irmscher will hopefully produce some quality kit,
Esp love the interior for some reason, but from some shots, looks like they have an I-drive rip off by the arm rest,
