Hmm, I can't help but think back to the R34 fiasco where Nissan claimed an under 8 minute lap with a "stock" GTR (which should have 276 bhp). When Topgear tried to repeat their feat with a V-Spec version with 350 bhp it was about 30 seconds adrift and to make matters worse the E36 M3 Evo Coupe that they had brought along was quicker with a mere 321 bhp.
Still, this new GTR does seem to be an absolute monster.
When was this? I dont remember this ever happening. I thought I had seen every top gear.Still, this new GTR does seem to be an absolute monster.
The time he mentions is one which was unofficially attributed to an R33 GT-R driven by Schoysman which was apparently running non-standard tyres and more boost.
Just accept that everyone will automatically query any time done by a "Jap" manufacturer. It's the way it is.

This car is staggering.
To see one in the flesh is amazing, way better than something like a 911.
Theres a few on the roads of Singapore when I was there.
The reason its so fast is because of all the clever diffs 4wd 4ws etc. Its going to be better than some 2 wheel drive race cars around the ring.
I believe every word of it!!

I think what some people may be forgetting here, is that regardless of whether they are using a modified version or not, its still more than impressive, and lets be honest, if they were to use a non-standard GT-R to do that lap, then fair play, as its just improving an already spectacular car.
We all know that whatever they will use to get the car to go quicker, will be available after-market for it anyway, and its still a mass-produced road-car. If it can get round that fast devil of a track quicker than the likes of the germans, yanks or even us, then bloody fair play to them!

There is a video on youtube of a US magazine taking the GT-R on a rolling road. Cant remember the details, but i think they recorded about 480bhp at the wheels. They said it could be as high as 570bhp as the fly.
There is more to the GT-R than it's power though. Its how it puts that power down and carries speed through the corners. For a heavy car, it seems very very nimble.
I really want one .... in white.

"We set out to build a multi-performance supercar accessible to anyone, anytime and anywhere – I believe the GT-R has delivered that promise."
Great. Can I have a silver one delivered next week then please?
No? Thought not.
Spare us the marketing drivel then Mr Nee-san. Surely this car doesn't need it.

I have never, ever, wanted a car as much as I want the GT-R. It is simply outstanding. Don't get me wrong, there are lots of fantastic cars out there, but this machine does things which no one would've thought possible for a car that'll be worth around £60k in the UK. What an achievement. Both on track and off.
Nice car but I can't accept any arguments for why we should be asked for £60k for this car when (I think) its closer to £45k in Japan. What's happened to the indignation of a few years ago about "rip-off" British car prices. Why do we still accept this outrageous situation???

Nice colour combo in the pic too...
(I'm trying so hard not to get excited about getting one... and failing miserably!)
and I don't even have one on order, do we perhaps need to start planning a ring trip for next year (I'm trying so hard not to get excited about getting one... and failing miserably!)
ETA: If this was a time set by a 911 Turbo nobody would question it one bit, funny that.

Is there a list of top Nurburgring times?
I looked everywhere for a list of top times. Couldn't find any anywhere. On the rings own site all I could find was a statement saying on free run days it was discouraged to attempt a fast/hot lap for the safety of others. Not much help there.
I too would be interested in which cars/drivers have got round quickest.

Stop arguing over whether they are valid results etc. Just go out and put a deposit down on one and see for yourself ....... as I did on the 2nd April. I should be getting my delivery date schedule any day now :-)
What you have to remember here is that it's not all about power, it's how that power is delivered to the road. And Nissan have managed to pull it off with their incredible dedication to the purist performance that can be achieved...
I for one, am a huge Honda fan, and have a 2004 NSX, which I believe set the benchmark all those 15+ years ago for the ferraris and Porsches of this world!! Well the Japs have gone and done it again,,, but this time it's Nissan. Never been a fan of Nissan, but this R35 is truly going to set a new standard for performance car manufacturers to try and match, and I doubt exceed!!!
Well done Nissan! Infact well done to any manufacturer who produces anything that exceeds the realms of what people believe can be achieved!!
And to Porsche!! Watch out, you need to revisit your strategic roadmap for development and do something radical (like move away from the mistake of having the engine falling off the back of the car!!). Porsche seriously are in trouble. I cannot see anymore potential they can deliver from the 911 (ok, the new 997 GT2, is a great piece of engineering, but is one worth really 3 GT-R's? NO)
Complacency of others has allowed Nissan to excel to where they are....
I look forward to the next few years to see what the manufacturers respond with....
