Interesting Stats.

Just goes to show that it doesn't matter how good a driver you are if the pedestrian jumps out in front of you there is not much you can do.

It's about time this side of the issue was addressed.

It's also interesting to note that as soon as teenagers get to drinking age the drop in deaths starts to rise again.

I think the ABD did an article on Alcohol in RTA relating to Pedestrians this backs that up.

Maybe there is someone out there in the government with an ounce of common sense.

We livein hope.

It's all based on research done by the DTLR, and there are some interesting studies done on chilren's/adolescents' perception (or lack of it) regarding road safety. It is quite predictable, but at least they're not bleating about speed.

3 Kids in the Chelmsford area were killed in a two week period and in two cases the Police said the Motorist would not have had a chance to stop in time

I'm not surprised drunk people get run over, just head past any club at 2am to see people wandering all over the road, and in some cases, stepping out in front of cars to see if they stop or swerve..

But on the plus side this is dealing with real issues as opposed to blatant scaremongering so is a step in the right direction

I have been both run over (deliberately!) and have run someone over.

The guy I hit was alright except for cuts and bruises. He was standing on he pavement in one of the cities busiest areas as I was driving past with 3 friends on our way home around 2am. Without any warning this guy decided to walk out into the road in front of me. I had no way of avoiding him. The Police were in fact on the pavement opposite and were watching when it happened and told me at the scene that I was completely blameless and the bloke was just pissed etc etc

As much as I know it wasn't my fault it doesn't half make you think what may have happened had I not been doing less than the speed limit like you see some of the late night city 'cruisers' doing.

£800 worth of damage to my car aswell, which took months/years to get back !

Cheers

Mark

I think there is also an admission here that kids sometimes play 'chicken' with road traffic. I know this has happened to me several times - once on my own road and I made a point of stopping & complaining to the kids parents (who to their credit, gave him a good hiding) immedeately.

I think many parents are either too ignorant or too lazy to press home the dangers of traffic. This is somthing I feel quite strongly about, and I'm pleasaantly surprised that there is an aknoweldgement that the motorist is not the sole cause of accidents.

The current problems may be partly a symptom of the 'driven to school' generation, and the change in the way kids play & roam about, but from being very young, me and my mates were all out and about playing, sometimes several miles from home, and had to be aware.
