The words late 06/early 07 V8 Vantage with 18000 miles immediately spring to my mind...........
And £3-5K service bills per year plus warranty price of £1,500 per year....lets compare like for like shall we?
you are right though - wouldnt dream of swapping an Aston for an Audi TT
My point was, comparing a brand new main stream car with 3 years warranty and no mileage on any service parts to a 2-3 year old Aston is not comparing like for like by any stretch of the imagination including cost of ownership, despite how cheap these babies have become.

QUITE!
Even pulling out of a side turning in first gear with the steering wheel upside down in the wrong direction can brighten up a cr**py day, something that isn`t really going to be on the menu in a TT RS (or a 993tt)
Why would it be more interesting to drive? It's a road car so maximum grip is the aim. If you infer breaking grip from the rear end and going sideways on the road then you're a tt and a danger to others. On the track no problem but this is designed as a car for the road, so 4wd makes lots of sense.Do you like cars? "Breaking grip from the rear end" ?????? I think our hope is that the car is 'adjustable' upto and beyond the limit. There is a time and a place, on a clear road (with good visibility), in good weather conditions and no oncoming traffic going sideways does not make you a tt. Trying to achieve the highest grip possible very rarely makes a car fun, the car being adjustable is more important to me.
MX5 Mk1 anyone?
As an owner previously of fairly low grip/adjustable motors, I thought you may have had a different opinion. On the right road in the right conditions I see no problem with a bit of sideways action!!
Just like all of the tts going out to "play" in the snow a couple of weeks ago . All they were were a nuisance and a danger to others trying to get from A to B. Going sideways and purposefully losing traction is only acceptable on the track not on the road. My previous cars had less grip, so I progressed my driving experiences by buying a car with fantastic grip - my 993tt which is a road car and gets driven on the road. Even pulling out of a side turning in first gear with the steering wheel upside down in the wrong direction can brighten up a cr**py day, something that isn`t really going to be on the menu in a TT RS (or a 993tt)

Drop the 4WD system and make it RWD and I can imagine it being quite a lot of fun to drive.
That said, is it just me or does sticking the letters 'RS' on the back of a cabriolet seem wrong?
Spot on. It's the only way they will ever be interesting to drive. That said, is it just me or does sticking the letters 'RS' on the back of a cabriolet seem wrong?

But your argument is still flawed.... right road, right conditions = sideways fun for me...... you are the one missing out!
You have that fantastic car, but do not use it to it's potential so what is the point?

Not everyone feels the need to shout about what they own.
I`ve owned a 993 TT, 993 Turbo S, 964 3.6 T and several other cars of a similar type.
BEFORE making comments to fellow PHers like "have you ever even seen inside a Porsche" and "run home to mummy" you may want to bear in mind that some people on this site have cars that make a 993 TT seem a bit plain but don`t necessarily want everyone to know about it!
oh really I forgot to mention my Veryon, F40 and a raft of F1 race cars that I've also owned I`ve owned a 993 TT, 993 Turbo S, 964 3.6 T and several other cars of a similar type.

Mummy & daddy must be out late tonight if you're still on the PC
My god, I own a 911, therefore I must be right......
So who is more dangerous, you achieving ultimate traction, or me sliding about at 30 mph on a deserted mountain road?
I would say it must be you who is either not confident is his abilities, or has severe 'short man syndrome'
I reitterate, late 40's, balding, medallion, brut aftershave...... 993tt you are a cretin of the highest order!
Hang on my mum has made my breakfast.

Haldex is fully adjustable and can be made to do what ever Audi want it to do , it is a great bit of kit
Sorry but in my expericence the "fake Quattro" Haldex is absolutely rubbish. Do you realise it does not even have a centre diff ??? It's a cheap way to add traction to a front drive chassis using Truck technology.(this is what Haldex do as a company). It is sooooo slow to react, even in the latest S3, it's shockingly bad, not just very bad.
It's only fine if you're happy in the knowledge that you have 4wd in your Audi, as per the marketing blurb. Don't go beyond 9/10th though, as it stops working when it should start working.
I am sure this TT is a fantastic marketing exercise aimed at a particular target that luckily does not understand a thing about car dynamics, nor actually needs to explore the limits of a chassis. Each to their own.

You do know the definition of irony right...Two pages of bickering wiith nothing to do with a fking TT in sight, please, even if you have owned 20 Porsches and all other manner of supercars and are in fact not 16 please fk off and argue somewhere else.

Major brand management mistake.
The TT really has a very poor image - whether that be deserved or not.
The RS badge has a very good image, esp with petrol-heads - and, again, whether deserved or not.
Putting the RS badge on the TT will dilute the value of the RS moniker massively, they could have made an "S" but not an "RS". IMO BMW made a similar mistake with their M dept, each iteration dilutes the excitement (read: aspiration) "we" should feel when they hit the road.
To be honest I persoanlly don't think it has that bad an image now since they have become more affordable, which is a little perverse. The TT really has a very poor image - whether that be deserved or not.

Most people who have driven them tend to agree that they aren't the last word in performance but they certainly aren't st, adnd in the right colour and spec are still a pretty car and not at all 'hairdresser' in my eyes.
My mate has one and it does drive very well, with a remap and some subtle handling upgrades they handle very nicely and can cover ground at a fair lick too!
Also with the Haldex diff controllers you can tweak the power distribution which improves things no end.
I mean for 10-11k you can get a decent V6 one, spend a relatively small amount on a non-res Milltek and some handling tweaks and you have a quick good handling and lovely sounding sports coupe.
I wouldn't be embarassed driving one in the slightest, but them again tbh I tend to buy cars I like regardless of the the current 'consensus' is. It does seem like teh PH thing to do in terms of slagging off the TT without actually having driven one properly.
REF - silver993.
I was in my old 993 going around the M25, all of a suden this Boeing 747 came out of nowhere (well probably Heathrow), I could see it wanted a race!
So i dropped down a cog or two and floored it, I thought there's no way this matey boy is going to get the better of me, I power slid it up the motorway, weaving in and out of traffic driving like a complete knob, total disregard for anyone else thinking what a drifting legend I am!
Did I beat the 747 - Did i F@ck
Is this a story true - Is it F@ck
Am I mad - Probably
Do you (silver993) talk ste - Yes
Good day.

which for me was a generalisation too far and caused me to take issue!
Once again I do apologise (but he started it Sir)

Jesus Christ, there's enough reprehensible crap flying around in here!
Audi RS created a great car out of the less than exciting A4 saloon, has anyone considered the fact that the TT is already a decent car? This has got the potential to be a spectacular machine. 350bhp performance without the heavy engine slung out the nose!
No-ones even seen it ffs!
And as for the RWD vs 4WD vs FWD crap, pllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeaaassse spare us yet another tedious 100 page thread full of underinformed, over opinionated bks. I drive all three on a regular basis and I like all of them for one reason or another!

I do like this a lot, would choose it over Z4M or Cayman S. Similar power outputs, but having that 4WD system would just make it feel much more planted. Then again, a Focus RS and £18k change shouts out.
4wd doesn`t ALWAYS make a car "feel" planted, EVOs feel as though they are on tip toes but are actually happy to put up with all kinds of harsh inputs. And the ORIGINAL pre re-call 4wd TT was a very nervous car which didn`t take kindly to harsh inputs (but was far more engaging to drive than post recall)
