I'm looking at buying a chimaera but with no garage it's going to be parked outside and exposed to the elements.

Am I mad?

depends entirely on where you plan to leave it - my mate had a Griff parked on the street outside his house without a problem, in Hove. The guy next door had an Alfa and a Maserati, also without problems.

Whether you'd want to risk it in some parts of London is another matter altogether.

Overall, I reckon that if you're going to be worrying about the car everywhere you leave it, perhaps best not to buy yourself that ulcer....

don't worry, it'll leak, you'll fix them, won't rust either

So far the only effect I've seen on cars parked outside is on the soft top but it's not a major problem and proper care and re-proofing seems to keep any deterioration in check (I was considering a hood cover). Longer term I'd worry about aging of the paintwork, but modern paints are better at coping with UV etc. The rate I pick up stone chips the car will probably need a respray eventually!!!

If it's parked on a street and you're worried about vandalism there's always Cosmetic Insurance to cover scratches (but not hood slashes or damage to fittings etc). A good alarm system will alert you if you park near your home.

I wouldn't have major concerns and it shouldn't let you stop your enjoyment of owning an untameable beast!

Don't park under trees the sap causes all sorts of damage to bodywork and bird cr@p is really bad. As long as you keep it clean it should be alright.

None of the TVRs respond well to being placed in a darkened room, anyway. If you leave them for too long they get really grumpy and just give you trouble!!

Buy one, though and you won't want to park up!!!!!

had a chimp for 12 months, no garage. no problems, leaked once, was a rubber seal caught badly when I put the roof back on before a REAL heavy down pour.

got the garage to re-proof the roof when I bought anyway, so no problem there.

got a tie down plastic sheet cover thing for the real bad rain, kept prying eyes off as well.

silly question - do they make a hardtop version?

If so, why not get one?

All my cars have only ever stood outside, never had any problems apart from my wife's Fiat Cinq. This got a bad bird shit on the roof that marked the paint !

For parking in the street a mate has bought a wheel clamp for £100 for his new STi.
Sees pretty good idea if you're that worried about security.
