Read in the local paper this weekend about Audi's new RS6 performance model, available in saloon or estste. This brute has a 4.2 litre twin turbo v8 with 450bhp! Leccy gizmo's and quattro will keep things in check. Sounds like fun for a practical car.

The major German firms seem to be on a quest to out do each other at the moment, which is good. I thought the old Lotus Carlton had crazy power for this kind of vehicle, and when the m5 broke the 400bhp barrier that seemed a tad crazy (in a good way). Now Merc are bringing out a 200mph 470bhp AMG E class. What about that nutty 500bhp Australian saloon too? Soon these family cars will have more power than a lambo!

Any future / relevance for the traditional supercar's soon?

That'll be the Holden HSV with an aftermarket (yet factory-sanctioned) supercharger. I think EVO recently said that if you were a TVR owner who had had to sell his TVR due to an expanding family, then this was the car to get.

A TVR saloon, now there's an idea...

I'm a 4 time TVR owner who has bought an HSV GTS-R (410BHP). It really was as close to a four door TVR as I could find in noise, performance and driver involvement.

Roadrunner, that's worrying me, a saloon with 450 BHP with possibly w****r behind the wheel in everyday traffic. And the number of cars like that is increasing every day . Even a normal MPV today has 120-150 BHP.

I don't know if I am wrong, but I never realized that are so many apassionate drivers (and capable) around me.

Go-Go why would it follow that it might be a w****r behind the wheel because it's a saloon with big BHP? or (more likely) have I missed the point!

Perhaps we should turn this thread into another one about the appalling level of driver instruction and how there should be tiered driving licenses.

Kevinday gave an answer. Explained myself bad.
My concern is a HP crescendo in the cars for everyday use with mediocre drivers behind the wheel. Saloons, coupe's, targa's, and so on.

I'm far more worried about the lunatic doing 60 in a 30 in a souped up old banger. The thread was about about saloon cars becoming fun and I'm all for that.
