hi brian,
had a similar prob with my 96 4.2 with continual puddles in the drivers footwell. Rain was running down the plastic strips on the windscreen into the top of the door which had a split in the plastic seal at the end, just behind the wing mirror.
Sealed it up and been fine every since, touch wood.

Sorry to here about the leak - can't offer any advice I'm afraid, but I was hoping you could answer me a question.
I've got a 97 4.2 in great condition (I think!), but the one thing that looks a mess is the top windscreen seal (it doesn't actually look like a seal, more like bathroom sealant!). I'd like to get it replaced for something more like the seal that runs along the bottom (i.e. the windcreen wiper end).
When they changed the seals, what does the top one look like, and was it an expensive job?
Hope this doesn't rub salt in the wound.
Cheers

I wouldnt say salt, more like caustic soda, burns a bit deeper. The front window looks like, well a front window, top trim and bottom trim perfectly normal rubber srips that sit flush. Cost £47 to get done by Silver Sheild Windsreens. Back window is factory original and loos like its put in with blu-tack, no finishing strips at all. Hope this helps.

You just need to use a general purpose outdoor clear frame sealant. It must be outdoor so it does not suffer from mildew.
It really is as easy as it sounds. Cut the nozzle off very small, insert it under the seal and squirt.
Remember to take off any excess before it dries.
Brian, I think you are looking in the wrong place if you are looking for the leak in the bulkhead. You said the water comes in even when you are stationary. This wouldn't happen with a bulkhead leak, only when moving.
You need to check your window seals (double bubble on the doors) and a modified windscreen one.
Happy motoring.
