Hello All,

What connections do I need where on the alternator?

First problem was that the battery light would not come on at all, which meant the battery was slowly being depleted. Various people suggested that the alternator was FUBAR'd. I removed it, had it tested and it was found to be fine. I therefore presume that a wire was not attached correctly after some recent work.

I have now refitted the alternator with the lead from the big fuse going to the large terminal and the small wire from the loom, going to the centre terminal. Now the battery light stays on at all times.

What connections should I have?

Same as what I've done then. Must be a problem elsewhere.

Cheers

Some alternators have another terminal marked 'W' for driving a rev counter. It could be that you've hooked up the small wire to this by mistake. Maybe you can use a small mirror to check.

Join the two cables together as a test without the fuse to see if it affects the light.

I have exactly the same problem, in that my light does not come on at all ...... Everything working fine, and I even took the dash pod off to test the bulb !!!

Unfortunately mine isn't working fine, started with an erratic rev counter, the battery light came on on tick over. I changed a partially split 100amp fuse, thought problem solved. A few days later the battery light came off and on erratically when the headlights were used. Now I have no battery light at all. I will change the alternator, but optimax post has put doubts in my mind (if it will cure the problem).
