Cant wait , its actually happening, my dream car is imminent. After much wait, & after 3 wonderful years in a 4.3 Griff, i am obtaining my ultimate, a cerbie 4.5. I have however, two very important questions.... is a warranty essential ( buying privately ), and where do I get my sports exhaust from, is it Fernhurst or is it Penninsular, or maybe somewhere else?

All assistance/comments gratefully recieved

Congratulations Cirvy!

At the risk of being branded a heretic, you might want to consider sticking with the standard exhaust (which is pretty loud as it is). I have, and it means long journeys are less tiring, you can hear more of the in car entertainment/passengers and you don't annoy the neighbours quite so much all without any less power .

All IMHO opinion of course, and it'll depend on how you plan to use the beast: mine is my only car.

Just go no cats and standard exhaust. Sports is too loud, wont get on tracks etc.
I have a warranty and I am not sure it is worth it. I wouldnt recommend it. The warranty I got only covers up to £1K and had a long list of things that arent covered. I have had some serious engine probs and to be honest the warranty doesnt appear to be much use! If you can get one that covers up to value of the car (talke to Fernies?) then it might be worth it.
ps congrats, enjoy, what year, colour, spec, miles, price....?

Plenty of those with the standard fit . Anyway, I hear good things about the Peninsula exhaust which is the one that Fernhurst fit, and Wedge Automotive do one as well. Check with Joolz (www.joospeed.net) as the guru on Cerbera matters .

You might also want to search and read what has been posted here on the subject before (search for 'sports exhaust' in the Cerbera section over the last six months), especially this thread: www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=8899&f=6&h=0.

Oh, and do get yourself a comprehensive warranty, if only for peace of mind.

Hope to see you out in your pride & joy soon.

Details: Nov. 98, 4.5, 26k miles, Tuscan wheels, McLaren Orange Pearl, various uprated bits & it looks sensational.Having driven a few over the years, I do prefer the sports exhaust & in terms of warranty, that sounds interesting, I was thinking of servicing at independant specialist anyway, which I guess is not an option with a warranty car!

Then

I didnt mean it about the affair

So does that mean you have the bottle to have an affair? I'm getting confused
You've still not said when you're picking the beast up?
At this rate Rick will beat you to be the 1st Tango boy in town

Warranty....you can pay for as much as you want with Warranty Holdings, I'd go for the full monty if poss, when these things break it gets expensive, you can use an Independant and it depends on how well the garage gets on with the warranty people as to how you recoup your outlay

joolz. easy. i had long decat pipes, wider tailpipes and a set of trackday silencers on mine. ace.

i THINK warranty holdings work can be done at any vat registered garrage... worth checking.

I never advise anyone to go for sports exhausts, but I'm quite willing to sell you one if that's what you really want. much better way is to go decat route (road legality disclaimer applied) , you'll protect your exisitng cats for MOT time (assuming they're OK to start with of course - many people are decatted without knowing it, their cats are blown out by poor engine tune and vibration) and you get a much better sound, sports pipes tend to be all noise and no tune, the std back box and decat sounds like the best twin cam escort you ever heard, lovely!! a true racing sound if ever there was one.
most people I know can't live for long with decat and sports pipes.
the other downside of going sports exhaust is that some of the cheaper ones are small pipes sleeved to fit the larger 4.5's pipework and others have poor bends and welds and the rivetted motorcycle versions literally fall apart.. almost all sports pipes cost significant mid range torque and actually make the car slower!
The best sports pipes (such as the JP items I sell which actually make a passing attempt at fitting correctly too! .. note how many sports pipes are badly fitted) can match the factory set up for performance although as Danny lt rightly says there's alot of variation in engine power outputs anyway before you start altering stuff.
One last point is that going decat saves you 150 pounds over the cheap sports pipes and 250 pounds on the expensive sports pipes, for many people that's the deciding factor.

This looks like Ted Reddick's car at Goodwood. Did he sell it to you?

I think colour is king with any sports car, & i know its probably safe & it appeals to a lot of people, but dark blue & dark green just dont quite go the whole hog for me ( hope thats not controversial, i'm new to PH ). Anyway, all style & no taste, thats me!
By the way, yes JP, griff went to the next chap who saw it, but many thanks for your time i enjoyed that blast.
And yes to chrish, it is Teds car, well spotted, i'll load up some good piccies shortly.
