Has anyone experienced warped brake pads? If so, what type of noise do they make and is it advisable to get them changed?

The reason I ask is that my new Cerbera has recently had its 1000 mile service and is now making a pretty funky noise at low speeds (albeit intermittently) - I can't really even describe the sound, but it is only audible when going at relatively low speeds (1-30 or 40 mph say) but when it starts it is very noticeable.

I've come across warped brake discs but not pads. If it's discs then you'll notice it more under braking, with the braking feeling very rough, almost like constant ABS chatter. Another way to check it to take off the wheel and brake caliper, to spin the disc feely you can then see by eye if it true or warped.

Hope this helps in some way??.........

Cerbies do have a habit or warping disks.

But if it's only the 1000 mile service you've had done, I very much doubt this is the problem (you'll have been running in, so won't have had a chance to abuse the disks yet & warp them). Call the dealer where the car was serviced. As your based in Kent, I'm guessing you use Walldonway or Dream Machines ? If it's Walldonway, ask to speak to Paul (service manager) on 01732 841021, or Dream Machines, you want James on 01435 868456...

Im afraid discs can warp anytime they like, my Griff had a set installed 3 months ago and have had to be replaced under warranty already. Noticable under moderate to heavy braking by judder thro the steering wheel and, sometimes, the brake pedal. A good test is to let the car roll to a stop with your foot barely touching the pedal....you should feel it pulsing if the discs are buggered

I would refer you to a site about so-called 'brake disk warping' by the 'inventor' of the Cobra if I could find the link. He claims there is no such thing, he has never seen it in all his extensive career of motor engineering. What he has seen (and he claims this is always the case) is burnt pad deposits sticking to the disk. This is caused by incorrect bedding in of disks and pads resulting in overheated pads. Can also be caused by incorrect temperature rated pads. These deposits are invisible to the eye and are fractions of a millimeter deep but can be felt as judder through the pedal when using the brakes. Cured by cleaning the disks and then bedding in the pads properly. I am sure somebody else could post this link because it was from PH that I found it.

Early start eh Joolz .

It was actually Carroll Smith who wrote the brake article(nothing to do with Cobras, although he was involved with the Shelby/Ford GT40 racing team).

Carroll Shelby did, of course, have something to do with Cobras .....

Must have you fettle my Cerbera some time soon Joolz - when is your southern branch opening?
