Johns cerbera rebuild and upgrade
Discussion
its been to long since i did anything worthwhile to the cerb but all the thinking planning etc. is done and the hard work begins firstly got the chassis and body set up ready for work in earnest tomorrow first job carry out a couple of little repairs to the chassis then install the engine and make manifolds etc. but some way to go yet couple of pics of her set up in the fab shop.

good day today started by cutting out the rotten corner to the nearside front outrigger and replacing with new tube all looks well, then got the engine /box in place and lots of measuring both chassis and body eventually got it where i wanted sitting nice and low in the chassis and a bit further back than the original ,all works well with the planned two only seats being further back in the cab, i have fabricated the majority of the offside engine mounting all the final welding and gusseting will be done when the engine is out again but pleased with todays progress.

just to answer cerberaherts question the engine is nice and low as low as i can get it without the flywheel being to far below the chassis, the engine is going to end up dry sumped leaving the ordinary sump on till its been to emerald on there engine dyno for mapping etc. going to run it in there as well, as to the manifolds i have got pure precision water jetting some manifold flange blanks i will tailor them to the heads then build my own tubular manifolds four into two into one both sides going to have a mid mounted box for best effect shall we say with the opportunity to fit the original cross body rear box for those tracks that need quiet

Martin short is letting me use his cad team to design the manifolds body mounting and suspension you may remember he is the man who built and drove the first successful cerbera gt race car back in the day so using his expertise to hopefully get it right first time, the car he built was a speed six they usd 27 engines in the first season but he also has lots of experience with the ls his moslers are powered buy the ls7.

no great shakes but got the other engine mounting fabbed up and tacked in place also got the gearbox mounting made and tacked in place start on the body today,

been busy today stripping the internal panels and sundries like the aircon unit brake clutch pedal assembly the heater matrix winscreen wiper assembly expansion bottle oil cooler plus a few other bits, just as an aside found lots of very thin layup in several places, but got to get the steel cage out tomorrow ready for a proper roll cage to fia standards going to do a couple of days on the wedge then back on the cerb next week get the body back on the chassis ready to go to the rollcentre.

good days work today got the tvr cage out got the chassis on the cradle ready to slide under the body the body hanging ready to lower on the chassis tomorrow ,went to pure precision to get the manifold bases water jetted and visited emerald to get the dimensions for the dyno coupling, car will be at the rollcentre in about ten days time so all moving nicely forward.

Thanks for the good words, itis going on an engine dyno for mapping and running in the chassis will be painted using zinc primer high build undercoat then a high solids finish same as the griff i re chassised a a while ago means no water tracking under the powder coat and very easily repaired touched up.

couple of pics of the heater and aircon first two are the aircon drivers side then the left hand unit on the floor is the heater then the space in the inner wing in the foot well where the heater goes it is held in by an ally strip and a very awkward screw at the top into the glassfibre hope this helps.

Body on to allow correct fitment the cerb has the roll cage running close to the body shell which is then glassed in to provide stiffness to the body so all needs to be in place to get it spot on plus they are stiffening the chassis with a front turret from the suspension arms top mounts then braced back through the bulkhead to the cage plus might be fitting air jacks all round.

as you know car is away at the rollcentre having the rollcage built got some moulds that may help with the body styling.

back into the cerbera after far to long been to martins today to finalise the cage rear struts remove the rear wishbone mountings some crossbracing to allow the diff to sit higher in the chassis plus one or two other chassis mods to facilitate the cage fitting sorted a fag packet design for the front triangulation and sorted many other parts uprights, drive shafts which are hollow units off the mosler, brakes, wheels, rack, steering column, airbox etc. so lots to get on with some pics to give you a flavour of the build.

well back on to the cerbera in earnest again want to move it on and the wedge over the next weeks big time so got the cage finished plus lots of chassis mods mainly to acceppt the new suspension mounts and stiffen it up all round ordered the new 81/4 in diff from redman with hydratrac ls unit and have built a building table for the chassis to keep it flat and level for marking out fixing points etc.
