19" Wheels on a Cerbera

I didn't get a photo of the whole car, but took this photo because I couldn't believe how close the wheels were to the body. The owner told me he had to do a little bit of grinding of the body work to help stop the rubbing.
That looks ridiculously close. Any dip on and suspension compression looks like it would foul.Probably looks great though.

That is close! I do have 19's on my car there gettng refurbed at the min OTOH I thought that this PHer ran 19s without any problems:

although he may well have altered the bodywork and suspension to suit.

If I'm right in saying I ran these wheels on my Cerbera for a short period.http://www.pistonheads.com/members/showcar.asp?car...

They never fouled or rubbed bur with the extremely low profile of the tyres the ride was hard.

Physics says the car must drive pretty badly on 19s. Anyone who's done it care to comment? Light 19s might be better than Spiders but even leaving ever climbing unsprung weights and faster climbing angular inertial moments aside, the ultra low sidewalls can't do anything to make the Cerbera any more progressive or predictable.
It would be a shame to render such a car all show-no go by ruining it with oversized wheels. Just IMHO (well not the physics part - that's just engineering mathematics at work)

Changing from 18" spiders to 16" Oz Saturns for sprinting dramatically improved the handling. It was a very marked difference and hugely better on the smaller wheels.
I have never tried 19s but given the trend between 16 and 18 I wouldn't want to, besides in my personal opinion - oversize wheels look stupid as well as ruining the handling.

I can't understand the desire to have elastic band tyres on a car. The roads in this country are filled with potholes (even the motorways/trunk roads) and you will be lucky if the set of wheels last a year without damage.
A mate had a set of 22" wheels on his RR Sport (against advice) and within 2 months he had needed 3 new tyres due to bursts caused by potholes. He has since purchased 20" rims. My wife's Merc E280 damaged 2 wheels, cracking one so it leaked air and bending the other so it was imbalanced (18"x 45 series tyres) so rather than replace with the same we changed all 4 to 17" x 50 series). Much better ride and less chance of wheel damage.
My Cerbera is on 17" rims and there is no way I will swap for 18" rims let alone 19". I want a car that drives well, not a poser.

Before anybody asks what size the wheels are on the Ultima, they are 18" x 30 series on the rear (335 x 30 rear and 285 x 35 front) but only 20/17psi respectively and a lighter car. Even so I have to dodge potholes and am seldom out in the dark (when you can't see the buggers!).
