In the last weeks I made a new Diagnostic Software for the MBE ECU. With the help from Scotty_D I could make a version which works on the AJP V8 too. So if you are interested look into the following thread in the Speed Six Forum:

It really is a cracking wee program, very easy to read as it goes full screen and no log off bug smile

Great work Olli

OK,

Maybe now is the time for me to grasp the nettle. I never bothered to try the old TVR software with all this "only works with old versions of windows" stuff and serial ports. Looking at this it seems I can use windows 7. I downloaded Olli's program easy enough.

Can some kind soul...

1. give me the cable spec (I hope I can convert to USB as this is all modern stuff has?)

2. Point out where on ECU to plug in

3. Help with the setup of port assignment in the software?

Cheers

Alistair.

Hi Alistair,

you have to buy a Serial / USB Converter. These are around 10,- Euro and normally all on offer should work. All these Adapters are using one of two different Chipsets from FTDI or Prolific. None should have a problem with my program.
If you plug in the Converter and install the drivers it will create a virtual COMx port. You can select this COM Port in my software. You can check the assignment of the port in the Device Manager of Windows.

The cable is an easy cable with 3 wires. But I'm sorry that I can't tell you where to plug it in. In the SpeedSix Cars there's a plug with 3 pins under the dash. But in the older cars there was a serial 9-Pin Plug on the ECU Board.
Maybe someone from the Cerbera-World should know :-)

Either or with verbs mine has a serial port on the ECU itself, later cars have a 3 pin plug I think.

It is. Pull the ECU out from the depths of the passenger footwell and the cable is long enough to sit the ECU on the floor beside the seat. Unscrew the 4 corner screws on the ECU, lift off the cover and you will see the plug in the middle of the board.

Thanks for this. I will pull ECU out and see if I am a 9 pin connector man or a 3 pin flylead!

Hi Alistair wavey

I burnt the skin clean off my hands when I grabbed my kettle but if you look here I hope that will get you started - at least on the cable front anyway.

Yes, there's only one version for both engines...it detects the ECU automatically.

OK chaps...Progress...of a sort.

I found my ECU, and found a cable looking like this coming out of the big ECU connector.

Now, I thought these were meant to be 3 pin? This is only 2?

I took the ECU cover off and...

so...

should I just use the 9 pin connector? or is the wire with the 2 pin connector any use? It would be easier than taking the ecu cover off all the time.

Assume cable is standard rs232, pin 2 to 3, 3 to 2 and pin 5 gnd if I use 9 pin d type?

Just bought a usb to serial converter as well....so getting slowly nearer!
