Some help needed on removing my alternator. I have looked at a couple of guides on here and got the alternator loose, but cant get it out. The bracket at the front and right hand bolt fixing is preventing me from sliding it back and forth. I'm now left thinking I need to take the throttle bodies off to get it out but didnt want to take them off as its just exposing me to more risk!! Any suggestions or advice welcome and if I need to remove them are there any bits like spacers or washers that I need to keep and eye on so nothing falls in.

Whilst i haven't remved the alternator i have removed the throttle bodies, looking at the photo surely you'd only need to remove one throttle body side to allow its removable.

Removing the throttle bodies, disconnet the throttle linkage arm and cable.

Undo the four allen bolts that secure the bodies down, careful of the O rings and the insulator block, brown thing, stuff some tissue into the holes, and should be okay.

Seeing as I was so close to it I decided to buy and fit a new alternator as the existing was still original and looked pretty beaten up. Purchased a new alternator from Clever trev, swapped the pulleys round and attempted to fit it, but it wouldnt fit. Had to shave of the top left corner almost down to the thread on the internal bolt to get it squeezed in. Not sure if anyone else has this problem but it has taken many hours and glad I dont have to tackle that one again in a hurry.

That doesn't sound right having to shave the alternator back. Not sure where exactly you mean top left corner. Did you compare the two casings first to see if they were the same?

if you zoom in on pot 4 you can see underneath it where I have had to take a chunk out. The problem was trying to get it level so I could get the fixed bolt on the right in fully.

Glad Im not the only one!

Good to know. I'll definitely be getting mine reconditioned if needs be. Only wish I'd done the same with my radiator.

Can't make it out from the pic. Not that it matters now as it looks like you have it in but what is it fowling on? Do you have the spacer between the bracket and the alternator?
Also the heat shield gaskets between the head and throttle bodies are shaped to allow more access to the alternator. Mine were fitted back to front which didn't help things.
The easiest way to get to the bracket allen bolts is with ball ended allen keys. and for putting the nuts on the back of the alternator bolts use a magnet to hold the bolt while turning the bolt until the thread catches.

This is where it was catching. You have to hold the alternator level in order to get the right hand bolt. the casing on this alternator was slightly different to the original alternator. I found a deep socket on the front and an Allen key wedged between the two bodies at the back (whilst levering the alternator with a screwdriver and third arm to get the belt tensioned!)

when you remove the airco bracket in front of the alternator, you can easily remove the alternator from the engine without removing the fuelrack.

Don't be scared to remove the fuel rail. Just change the o rings when you replace it.

Use assembly lube on all the O rings, put all injectors in the rail first, then put one side in one manifold, then gently persuade the four injectors in to the other manifold
