Just a general moan really. Ended up looking like a complete nob (without opening my mouth)in Brighton today due to my handbrake. Anyone got a good idea on how to get this properly sorted as I am thinking of setting up a standing order with Walldonway at 6 week intervals to pay for keeping me from rolling back into other people.

PS Advice like "don't go to Harrow, or move to Holland" is understood but not really practical.

I find that carrying a passenger who is prepared to walk a few metres behind you waving a read flag always helps.

Yes, they're known to be ineffective. Took mine to TMS who have managed to get it working better than it's worked at any time ... but it's still lacking compared to other cars.

they're all rubbish, especially when the brakes are hot (it loosenes as the brakes cool). Leave it in gear...

Was impressed when I got my Tuscan as it was the first TVR I had owned that had a handbrake!.The one on the Cerbera lasted about a week after a service and then became totally useless.

One of the half a dozen reasons I got rid of my Cerb. Handbrake wouldn't even hold the car on my modestly sloping drive. Reverse out of garage - hand brake on - park in gear - turn off engine - get out of car to lock garage - back in car - start car - continue on journey. Got to really irritate after a while.

I've found that carrying around a small block paving style brick usually helps.

Positioned under the leading wheel and hey presto - instant handbrake replacer.

I'm practicing this technique in preparation for my new Cerb on a Rover 220 which also has a shite handbrake.

Ended up riding and smoking my clutch in the que's out of the Goodwood festival of speed, as on a hill for a mile or 2!
Has no one come up with a mod / improvement for it yet?!
Joolz... Next project for you, be plenty of takers for it!

Nothing serious. Just stuck turning across the traffic half way up a hill. Very difficult to balance the brake, then drop it and switch to clutch/accelerator mode without stalling. Other than that it is running like a dream, drops a little oil through the breathers on very hot days, but still good for 185!!!!

I reckon anyone well heeled enough to run a Cerbera should have automatic garage doors

Same on mine - I was told it is because where the nylon adjuster is located - above the exhaust so unless you drop the exhaust everytime then they have to use a really long screwwdriver to tighten it and obviously you can't get the 'purchase' to tighten it enough!!!

I park in gear and try not to park on a slope.

I HAVE CURED MY HANDBRAKE PROBLEM BY DRILLING A HOLE OF 50MM DIA IN THE FLOOR OF THE CAR. (ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF COURSE) AND THEN INSERTING A BROOM HANDLE DOWN INTO THE HOLE WHICH THEN MAKES CONTACT WITH A LOCAL DRAIN IN THE ROAD. I FIND THIS IS A VERY PRACTICAL AND CHEAP SOLUTION.

you can cure the problem by adding an extention to the handbrake lever at the cable end-basically remove the cable, weld a piece of metal bar about 30/40mm long on,drill hole at end of bar(about 6/10mm away from end of bar) for cable attacthment and this will increase the hand brake force and reduce the effort made to pull the fricking thing up........stuart@cerberusmotorsport.co.uk

Thanks for all the response. Looks like I'm going to have to get my welding goggles out!

Stag : I had a similar arrangement on an old go-kart I built when I was about 7 y/old. had a pivoting wooden stake through the centre beam of my backbone style wooden chassis. worked great until my dad less than politely pointed out the great big marks i was making down the driveway. best bit of it was that if you pulled on the "brake" as going around a corner you could lift the kart onto two wheels and turn it over. graet fun. sure it gave mum a few heart stopping moments though. teehee.
