AJP8 No Start after Top End Rebuild

I once had an issue with the Molded plug to one of the coil packs, an internal core had come loose at the pack end after removing and refitting. Swing through the control wires between the pack plug and the ECU. That said I think mine wasn't firing as opposed to mistimed firing.
If I put the spark tester on every plug then I should be able to rule that out.Thread here with photos showing the connector and potential wires falling out issues with it, worth a look as you've been in this area if only to eliminate.

Another point, is it possible to have the wrong control plug on the wrong coil pack?
That was my first question, but CerbWill confirmed my wiring, as did the 'set' in the loom anyway. From experience, trying to think... Check battery connections are on tight, had starting issues when one of the wires had practically worked its way out of the connector on to the battery. I guess the same applies to the earth (you say you've already checked that though), big fuse...
Lastly, check ignition plugs and ECU plug for water ingress.
Set it with No1 as near as you can to TDC and create some tippex timing marks on the crank pulley and front case. Crank it with a strobe on number 1 plug lead and see if you have somewhere approaching 10-15 degrees of advance while cranking. The static tippex marks should be visible with a well charged battery to get a good crank speed and a darkish place to do the test. Accuracy is not really an issue as if it's within a quite large margin it will start and run but if its 75 or 105 degrees out you have a clue. If it's not flashing at all you have a bigger clue.
You can also do the same with number 2 cylinder but of course it will need it's own timing marks as the engine is odd fire by 15 degrees.
That would be my approach, after being very sure about the cam timing which is all too easy to mess up on an odd fire engine.

Definitely got the timing chain/cams timed correctly?
I marked the cams before removal so I know they are perfect relative to each other. Could I have the crank 180 deg out, I don't think so, I followed the manual fastidiously.Of course this test does not mean the timing is cock on, just a sanity check that it's not 180 degrees out.
Best checked with a cylinder on each bank BTW.
A different angle here from personal experience, when I had it in bits and could not get it started as well.
Mine ran fine, took it off the road, engine in bits and would not start but trying like yours.
My injectors had gummed up and 2 were more or less doing nothing, a full clean and the car burst in to life when re fitted, it appears they don't like lying for periods.
A quick check to see what cylinders were spraying fuel before I decided to go get them cleaned and flowed.

Paul,
Did you get her going in time for the Ring trip?
Sadly not, so this was my view insteadDid you get her going in time for the Ring trip?
As you can see the weather was perfect, and on the Friday we hired MTBs and cycled round the forest track that follows the circuit while watching the VLN practice, great fun! (although the uphill section from Adenau to Hohe Acte was really hard)
The AJP8 soundtrack is pretty good, but an SLS is mobile thunder - just awesome!
And this is the last time I drove my Cerbera (other than the run home a couple of days later).
It's not a great lap, quite a few little errors, as it was getting towards the end of the day and I was losing concentration. The worst is when I hit the kerb on the bridge at Adenau (Breidscheid), that's when I knew I had to call it a day.

It's funny how no car seems quick round the 'Ring in a video.. Even when you are there the track seems to swallow the sense of speed! It's not a great lap, quite a few little errors, as it was getting towards the end of the day and I was losing concentration. First day working on the car since September, and still none the wiser.
Started by replacing a number of Jubilee clips with Mikalor, before refilling and bleeding the cooling system. Then I pulled the plugs and did a compression test, I had a heart stopping moment when the first came out at 150, before realising that I'd not opened the throttle. These are engine cold (obviously) and with no additional oil in the cylinders (which I had added for my original test four years ago).
1 - 220
3 - 230
5 - 230
7 - 245
2 - 220
4 - 220
6 - 225
8 - 215
So all good, and fairly even too, so I can't see how the cam timing could possibly stop the engine from firing, which it hasn't done once.
My assistant had time to press the start button while I checked that all injectors were doing their thing, but not enough time for me to check for a spark at each cylinder. That will happen tomorrow, however 1 and 2 are already confirmed.
How can I check whether the spark is near TDC?
Nevertheless, I have compression, so I can at least relax a little.
