Up for auction now

Obviously the ride height needs sorting - too low at the front, too high at the rear

One small problem with the mileage too

September 2018
MoT MOT Test | 29,273 miles
Pass

August 2018
MoT MOT Test | 29,344 miles
Fail

That's a lot of reversing

I'd spotted it too at H+H in March. I was going to wait until it was closer to the auction date but that's a very good find that it was in a previous thread!

I'd say the MoT tester read the mileage wrong (2 for 3 or the other way round). I've seen MoT history hundreds of thousands of mile wrong when the tester has used the digit after full stop as well!

It did fail on emissions so it's possible they did a high speed run on rollers in reverse (?). Failed on them before but this last time it seems to have been due to a duff lambda probe.

Personally I'd say it is a bit high at the back but the front is fine. No mention of aftermarket shock absorbers but it's quite likely:

Edit: Zooming in, the tryes look fairly new, Hankook (on 17" rims from the 4.5). And sports silencers at the rear.

It's poor attention to detail IMHO that the front number plate isn't even on level. frown

Agreed, front looks fine, rear looks on stilts!

If you want to see what happens when the front is too low, check out this video

The skid plate covering the exhaust under mine bottoms out on dips in the road and on overtaking going across the centre road camber sometimes, and it isn't all that low!

What are those blue plugs in the windscreen vents for may I ask? To concentrate the air-con maybe?

The ear plugs are the cheapest way to stop hot airflow in to the cabin (I don't have aircon)

I am all about cheap

Check the bolts used and if they have washers underneath them. I had washers between the plate and the chassis which I've removed. I've used thinner headed bolts, with thinner spring washers to save another couple of mm. The corners of my outriggers are 120mm from the road front, 130mm rear and that seems to work well.

The other thing to check is the seat bolts, mine were huge and hanging down the furthest. I replaced them with shorter ones but it's a bit of a faff as I found out when I took the seats out. You need long bolts to squash the runners against the carpet, otherwise you can't get them though to put a nut on, then take one out at a time to put the shorter ones in.

How soft is your suspension, bouncing too much maybe?

Apologies for not replying earlier, I hadn't noticed the question. Mine has adjustable Gaz gold pro all round. Last owner set it up.

I now think it's actually the brackets joining the sports silencers to the main exhaust hitting the ground. They have been used sideways but are still the lowest point on the car. I will be curious to see how this car C18 ERE goes on 2nd March; they have that Japan market TVR Chimaera 'Clubman' in the same auction.

It sold for £16414 (??) Even allowing for the 10% commission with or without the VAT, that figure is obviously wrong.

I suspect it should be 16,464 which is £14,700 + buyers premium.

The Chimaera clubman didn't sell:

I'm not sure if that is good news for an auction price, but it seems fair. I never inspected it myself.

Hi fellow cerb owners, I can now say that as I bought C18 ERE. Always a bit of a gamble buying at auction, although Historics have a good reputation. I can confirm all appears to be good, drove back to suffolk with no hitches. I had to make use of the tunnels on the M25 just to double check the engine was making the correct noise! wink It is in pretty good shape, came with a massive folder of receipts etc which was reassuring. The de cat sounds just like an old F1 car, a brutal glorious sound. I found some new door rubbers in the boot, but having read there not easy to fit I may not bother. It will live with the other four wheeled fuel guzzling beasts in the garage. Anyway enough babble for now will report back.

Great to hear from an owner who won a car at auction.

There's one that needs work, has 45k miles on it and spent 5 years in Belgium on ebay for £15k so if that one has no big snags, it could be a bargain!

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1996-TVR-Cerbera-4-2-45...

There was no mention of it being 'decat', so are you sure it hasn't just got a sports exhaust fitted? (2 single parallel rear silencers rather than the big rear large single one) . That's how it looks in the rear photo. The cats are covered by a heat shield in the centre of the car. The previous owner removed mine for straight pipes but couldn't cope with the noise and refit the. My 4.5 does has sports silencers, and it sounds like a race car but is legal., I think smile

Does it have aftermarket shock absorbers or original?

I can't believe it's been bloody raining non stop, I want to take the gal out just to check I wasn't imagining that glorious sound. The M6 makes a good noise but nothing as brutal as the cerb.

As for the exhaust, the cats are in the boot (removed, not rerouted lol). It is an aftermarket stainless affair. There is very little in the way of silencers. Couple of bulges towards back of car, however don't think you would get muffling material in there! I have to say driving it back at about 80 where speed cameras allowed, the sound was not unbearable.

I am surprised at how good it's screwed together no rattles or squeaks.

Cats will be in the boot from the MOT. Mine go in for the MOT and swapped out for bypass pipes after.
Be careful with greasy roads. Mine can break traction in third if pushed hard

An auction isn't a good place to sell a Cerb imo, it isn't the sort of car that attracts a lot of attention from collectors, nor is it the sort of car most buyers would want to buy with the associated auction risks.. This has sold for a lot less than even a couple of SP6's have gone for recently. However, as a seller, if you need rid quick, it is an OK proposition.. It will just hit you in the wallet.
