So, I've been thinking a lot recently about swapping my Chimaera for a Cerbera.
I currently have no seat rails in my Chimaera and I can just about get a helmet on, just. I'm all back, with little legs.

I've been and sat in a couple of MK1 Cerberas and my head is firmly on the roof.

I understand the MK2 has the tuscan seats. Are these any lower (with the seat base in) than the MK1 seats?

Struggling to find many MK2's for sale to actually go and have a sit myself.

Thanks

You can take the seat cushion out in the Tuscan seats. And sit about another 2 inches lower.

I have a MK2 with the Tuscan seats and have tried it but it's a bit hard on the bum.

I'm 6ft and find my hair does brush on the roof when I have the seat cushion in.

Are you very tall?
The early cerbera seats are apparently very popular as the most comfortable seat. The Tuscan style ones are not supposed to be as comfy.
I know some have had smaller seat cushions made.

I sat in a 4.2 a few days ago and at 6' 2" tall with probably a long back needed another 2" to straighten my head.

To the OP, cerbs have less headroom than a chim.

You can modify the mk1 seats, removing the fibre glass flat bottom and using elastic webbing to support the cushion. That gives more headroom.

I’m 6’1 and only really struggle with a crash helmet, I move forward on the seat and sit a bit slouch which isn’t ideal.

I’ve just ordered a pair of Tillett B5 which, along with saving 20+kg, should allow me to sit lower too.

I’ll report back once they are in and get some pics of the seat base mods at the same time.

I don’t know what they did there. The earlier cars are allegedly worse!

All I know is that I sat in a 97 4.2 with standard seats, the drivers seat was actually fitted lower than the passenger seat and there was not enough headroom to drive the car. Very disappointing.

He must have long legs and a short back.

If you look in the video clip you can see his knees sticking up on each side of the steering wheel which is not a good driving position. The scene also looks reclined back to Max as the top of the seat is nowhere near his back. Mind you, not many people are 6 foot five.

One of my sons is 6’ 8” and he often dries his girlfriends Honda Jazz and fits easily! Comfy but embarrassing ..........

Mole Valley has an earlier speed six car up for sale. I'll pop in there later and try It out for headroom.

It is my understanding, pre-2000 cars which have the carbon fibre trim at the back of the roof and on the pillars have a slightly different roofline, is this correct? I know there is a difference with the earlier cars internally regarding the rollbar . The earlier one's rollbar drops down more and has the tiny sunvisors.

There's no difference in roofline that I know of, there is a difference in the swage line that runs to the A pillar and a thinning of the padding that covers the cross-screen roll cage tubing allowing more visibility, but the actual important dimensions are the same.

Peter Wheeler wasn't a small chap and I can't imagine him producing a flagship car that he couldn't fit into ... unless he had the ones he drove specially adapted of course (a possibility!)

Thanks for everyone's input so far.

I too have seen posts relating to a different roof line on the MK2's which I think is a myth having read some more. (As said, the roll cage padding is thinner).

Has anyone tall actually sat in both a MK1 & MK2 to report back?

All the best

As far as I'm aware, having an early one, is that there is more padding on the roll bar. Happy to take photos of mine, measurements etc
The tiny sunvisors can be a pain when the plastic supports wear and the sunvisor slowly droops to the down position. I've never actually found a need to use them.

The later cars don’t have sun visors, can be a pain in low sun.

Depending on where you are in Surrey, you are more than welcome to try and fit in mine, its a later car with Tuscan seats.
