Well the time has come that I need to replace my drive shafts, 2xDave Mac units on order but what is the process for changing them, is it just the Allen bolts at each end or do I have to undo the 41mm nut on the rear hub?

What would be an average time to do them both, a couple of hours or days?

Trying to decide if I can do them round at a mates house in his nice big double garage one evening or do I book it in somewhere?

Cheers

Remove centre caps from wheel. With a breaker bar undo centre nuts. One is left hand thread.

Jack car up, remove wheel, axle stand for safety

Remove caliper and disk

Remove top upright bolt.

Undo and remove bolts on CV joint to diff, a couple of extensions come in handy.

Wiggle drive shaft might need a few gentle taps with a copper hide mallet to release from bearing. put nut back on before doing so to protect threads if needed.

Refit in reverse and torque to spec, hub nuts might need retorquing after a few runs.

Thanks Peter, I better go and buy a socket then.

Don't suppose you can remember which is a left hand thread?

No need to remove caliper, disc or hub nut. Just undo all the Allen screws and remove the top wishbone bolt. Mark position first. The hub will pull forward giving enough room to remove the driveshaft. If the Allen bolts are tight use someone to press the brake pedal to hold it still then rotate and remove the next.

You star thanks Paul, but it seems it may not be necessary to undo the hub.

Will try and report back.
