Wotcha Team ! wavey

I am dull - I have alway admitted to that so I hope that you will treat this as an opportunity to educate an idiot !
I took a lot of under-bonnet gubbins out earlier this year to fix a problem that I'd had with my charging light coming on.

It turned out to be the drive belt on the Alternator had shreaded.

Well, I am now trying to put "The Gubbins" back and am having probs with "The Big Fuse".
I disconnected the cables and removed it to check it was OK and now I am trying to reconnect it and can't find one of the cables.

Whilst searching around at the back of the motor I have come across a likely-looking terminal (if a little small) but it has the yellow name tag of "Stepper" on it.
(Here we go) Now I know nuttin' about stepper motors. I heard that there is one on 'some' chimaeras but I thought that was to control induction flow.
I have had my induction system apart 200 times and have never been aware of a stepper valve in it.

Sooooooooo

1) Is there a stepper motor on the 4.5 AJP ?
2) If so, what does it "Step" ?
3) If this Stepper wire is not the wire required on the terminal of The Big Fuse, can you tell me what wires are supposed to be on each end of it ?

Sorry to be such a nonce.

As usual, all answers, no matter how sick (The original definition) or humorous they are, are welcome.

Ta !

No the AJPs dont have a stepper motor. No idea why the wires are there but the were there on my original wiring loom. Maybe TVR were thinking of a stepper motor for idle control or drive-by-wire throttle at some point.

The big fuse should be connected in line with the big thick cable from the alternator to the starter motor.

I really do hope you have the battery disconnected while you're doing this.

This probably doesn’t help but the ecu wiring diagram does refer to stepper (for whatever reason or non reason).

Edited to add - the steppers in the wiring diag do nothing on a Cerb. But I find mention of a heater stepper.

Battery to starter
Starter linked to fuse holder
Fuse holder linked to Alternator

Thanks Gazz, Guess it would be "Fun" to connect it and see what happens rofl

Sorry Mate,

If The Big Fuse is between the Starter and the Alternator (The two terminals on it)
Where does the battery come in ?

(I did say that I was a Dullo !) banghead

(I am even duller than normal as I am working on a newbie laptop which I can't seem to get decent results for the Search Engine on)

There's a big cable from the battery to the solenoid on the starter motor to take the several hundred amps needed to start the car. Then there's cable specced for 100 or so amps from the same terminal on the starter motor to the big fuse, and from big fuse to the alternator.

Sorry, I'm not clever enough to do a drawing on here but
Battery (pos terminal) to thick cable to Starter motor (big terminal) to cable to Fuse (one terminal) Fuse (other terminal) to cable to Alternator (big terminal)
Note then that there are 2 cables on the big starter terminal, one from the battery, one from the alternator via the fuse
HTH
Edit: Will beat me to it!
