I’m trying to make the most of the downtime to do a few jobs.

I want to replace some of the switches and wiring on the steering wheel and was hoping that someone might be able to tell me what type/manufacturer the 2 plug connector is that connects each switch to the PCB behind the steering wheel boss.

I’ve been through RS Components’ pcb connectors section on their website and can’t see anything that looks the same.

Thanks

I believe they are 2-pin Molex . . .

RS have them, but you buy the sockets on 10's and the pins in 100's

Remember, if you don't want to work in the car, remove the steering adjuster bolt, disconnect the ribbon cable to the control box, then there's two plugs and the whole steering column comes out. Much easier to work on

Details here:

Plus you may need this, there's an alignment for the indicators and a test mode for the buttons

Is there room enough on the back of the switch between the steering wheel cover plate to use a push fit connector? I noticed that a Superseal crimped connector fits snugly on the pin of a spare switch I have, I also have some bootlace ferrule connectors which also fit snugly.

I’ll take a look when the wheel comes off the car, if there’s no room I’ll break out the soldering iron, but I’m wondering what others may have done.

I am going to take your advice and remove the steering pod as a complete unit and work on it that way.

The car is wedged in the garage at the moment and I was hoping that someone might be able to tell me the dia and length of the torx head bolts which fix the steering wheel boss to the casting?

Thanks

The four male connectors soldered to the circuit board seem to be under a lot of stress on my car due to the wire bending immediately as it leaves the female connector. I thought that maybe replacing the straight male connectors with 90 degree versions might help.

Mine had glue from a hot glue gun used to hold the cables and reduce strain in a lot of places. I replicated that when I put it all together again
