I know about the RR conversion for the 4.5 Cerb to up the power to around 440 bhp. Is there anything for the 4.2 or S6? Can you do the RR on these too? Afterall, the S6 is like a Tuscan engine and that can be RR-ed. I have noticed that the S6 engine in the Cerb has different power and torque to the Tuscan and Tamora, so maybe sort of done already?

The RR conversion for the Cerb get's it up from a REAL 350 to around 400. It's totally different to the RR conversion on the S6. The 4.2 V8 (usually around 330 +- 20) can be increased by about 25bhp by having the inlets ported by Joospeed.

The S6 probably has different specs quoted for fairly random reasons between Cerb & Tuscan. I believe the factory may do an RR Speed 6 cerb if you ask very nicely. This has a quoted 380, and in reality probably actually has it.

Given the difference of an extra 25 bhp at these levels is hardly world changing, it's not worth the bother. It's certainly not going to make much different on road or track compared to driver or suspension upgrades.

for what its worth,joolz and myself took my 96,4.2,25k mile cerb to the rolling road on tuesday(same one where yours went danny)and it made 343bhp so i was well happy,totally standard engine by the way.

plus it's still catted so there's maybe a couple of bhp to come there. great result all round Mike.

Hey, I did say +- 20! Richard Prebble's 4.2 had 360 @ 7000+, only 290 torque though.

yeah Mike's was down on torque slightly but held well up the rev range to make that good power figure. It's also got a beautiful exhaust and fantastic wheels though Danny ...

Someone at TVR told me I could have my 4.2 engine turned into a 4.5 RR!

Not Sure if they meant a new engine or just rebore, skimmed and ported heads etc etc. on the original engine.

hmm de-cat,i hadn't really considered it,thought it might be too noisy with the sports back box. you shouldn't mention these things it only gets me thinking.(or is this a sales tactic joolz??). i'll be walking round like homer simpson all day now....hhmmm deeee catttt.

yeah I just threw that one in there to get you thinking, although to be fair Mike your current exhaust does sound particularly good and with 343 bhp you're not exactly short of power. maybe you could try some on a sale or return basis one day? it would be VERY loud though

Mike, was that 343 bhp at the wheels or on the flywheel or some other engine part? If it was at the wheels, considering transmision losses thats good.

Looks like the verdict is that the S6 engine delivers what is says, has anyone rolling roaded a S6 Cerb? The 4.2 and S6 have similar power and torque quoted by TVR, but when tested the 4.2 is down on quoted values and the S6 may be at quoted = more than 4.2.

Sounds confusing. Yet to drive them so should really shut up about figures until I have been behind the wheel. What I was getting at was this...thinking of getting a Cerb, S6 and 4.2 more easily available and seem to have similar power, but 4.2 quicker (wonder why this was). Also S6 is easier on the ride, but by all acounts the ride is much improved by aftermarket shocks. So if such shocks are added to a S6, would this give better overall car than 4.2? Just trying to convince myself that there may be reasons to also look at a S6 if can find one without an engine that is likely to blow up every 2000 miles.......

it's 343 at the flywheel, still a great figure in TVR terms
