I think i,ve said enough about the speed six engine and its poor design but if you don,t believe me take a trip up to TVR Blackpool and see for yourself the 100+ Tuscans /Cerberas waiting to be fixed.Alot of people keeping mum about all this for some reason!.
You'd expect them to keep quiet, if it's true then it's a potential P.R. nightmare. The immediate future of TVR is based on the speed six engine. It appears the Tamora will be well received, and hopefully this will result in a sales increase. If they don't resolve the engine problems they will be in deep trouble.

hmmm, I wonder if this is why the Tamora pre-production demonstrator doing the rounds is a 3.5 (not the launch specified 4.0 speed six) - would be embarassing if the journos had a car that exploded...

I think that you will find that the Tamora is supposed to be a 3.5 ltr (or something in this range) engine so that is why it is doing the rounds. If you want the 4.0 ltr then you go for the standard Tuscan or Cerb. Then the Tuscan S has the Red Rose equilivent of the 4.0 ltr. On the S6 reliability issue, it is a newer engine and the V8 went through similar problems for a few years from launch. The V8 is quite a sorted engine now (also benefits from the Tuscan Challenge test bed) whereas the S6 still has some development to go. The Powertour GT racing will help improve the S6 breed so things will improve (and have to as TVR's future depends on it). As a Cerb S6 owner, I have to say that it is very fast, has very smooth power delivery and is really driveable. I have had to have a rebuild after 8000 miles and hope that it wont need another but I love the car and would recommend a S6. As long as you have a warranty then you don't need to worry. Kris

Regarding the Tamora I must have my facts wrong, though I do remember reading that the engine in the press car is smaller than the engine that will be released. Probably a 3.5 instead of a 3.6 or something. How long did your rebuild take - did TVR provide a car while your s6 was on 'holiday' ?

About 9 weeks for the rebuild. I did get a loan car but not a TVR. It felt like a long time but it was great to get it back.

Where is this latest news from.? I'm keen on getting a Tuscan but am too worried about the reliability. Have/do TVR ever make official statement(s) saying yep we've found and resolved a problem.?
quote:
The latest news is that the S6 head has been re-engineered with larger oil ways to improve lubrication to the cams ect. This, I believe, is as a consequence of lessons learned with the Cerbie S6 and Tuscan R race programs. So any cars being rebuilt now should have the new head design. Hopefully this will resolve the problem and make the S6 as reliable and durable as the S8 (I've heard of S8's doing more than 50,000 miles without problems, well major ones anyway).

When my S6 was rebuilt (I only got it back a week ago) it had a new cylinder head, engine block pistons, con-rods, big end and main bearing. So this adds up to the replacement cylinder head modification. The S6 will become more reliable, the same story applied to the V8 and that is now a reliable car (albeit more of a right gear right time type of car whereas the S6 is much smoother lower down and can pull from 30 mph to 180mph in fith gear no probs)..

I,M worried now as my car hade its last engine rebuild only a few months ago and came back with the same block and cylinder head!!!And my warranty runs out soon!!Oh sh*t,maybe i should try and blow it up asap. And in awnser to the question on "do TVR put up there hands and say sorry we got it wrong" NO!! they keep there mouths firmly shut...Liability and all that!Lets hope there latest speed six developement works, but i guess we won,t know for at least 6-8 months.SO again anyone thinking of buying ..wait and see if the engines are going to give a long serviceable life this time.(so i don,t want to hear people saying"my cars done 6k and its fine",but "its done 30k and its still running fine"Only time will tell......for our sake andTVR,S .Thank you i rest my case.

backtothefold & gasblaster - still there? I've been to see a 4.5 private sale and this was a much better experience than the 4.2. Car not for me though - I'm becoming convinced that the colour combinations are a key factor when choosing a Tiv. The drive was a lot smoother and the owner claimed he can't use much more than three quarters throttle!! I have had more discussion about the engine and spoke with a TVR mechanic the other day and he suggested the 4.5 is the 'sorted' engine. In light of my latest info I'm now looking for a bold colour (they look great in yellow!) full hide 4.5 1998 or newer!!! Also I've now sold the Griff so I'm a cash buyer (I think dealers prefer this!!) Keep U informed! JP

From what you can read here, 98 is a better year to buy, and 30k miles says that the car has certainly been used a fair bit, so can't have spent its whole life at the factory being fixed. Other guys on this list actually own cerbies rather than aspire like me though, so I'd listen to them. Check out the other threads on the list too.

Get the chassis number and any old reg numbers and then call TVR, they will tell you the history they have on the car, this should include all servicing and any warrenty work, that way you can be sure the seller is telling you the truth Also call the places that have serviced the car, they should be able to give you the cars history as well ================ Graham and Rosie

Definitely a 4.5. I was mad enough to test drive all 3 versions b4 placing the order. Speed 6 was a waste of time - I turned around after 1/4 of the full test drive distance. End result - a yellow 2000 model with sports exhaust!

Well chaps I've taken the plunge - A 4.5 AML purple cerby with mag and purple interior with approx 11k miles. This was by far the best car I have driven. To all you thinking of which one to go for the 4.5 has to be the ultimate. I would also recommend the sports exhaust - it is the dirtiest sound you will ever hear and mine is as close to a burble as you will get out of the AJP. This is faster than my Griff 500 by far and a totally different driving experience. I'll let you know if i have any problems and if you see the purple ROK3T give me a beep!!! Good luck all JP

Congrat's on your purchase, hopefully I will be upgrading the Griff to a 4.5 soon... BTW, is ROK3T your number plate? Remembered seeing it on this road legal Tuscan racer, any connection? http://www.pistonheads.com/tvr/tuscanracer/conversion.htm Cheers, Graham Edited by Graham B on Wednesday 5th September 14:52

Graham B - Yes that was mine aswell... I actually bought the plate from auction specifically for the tuscan. I changed my 4.0 Griff for the tuscan one day when I had a rush of blood to the head!!! It was MAD. JP
