Warranty

Reading through, I hear a lot of people talking about warranties, some good and some bad.

In a perfect world, we'd be looking for everything including wear and tear to be included, but what is actually covered and are there different levels of cover available?

Finally, are warranties only available after purchase through a dealer, or can you pick up an "aftermarket" jobbie?
