All's well that ends well as they say. Only a week and a bit after my car going bang, it's been fixed, washed and returned.

Boy, am I a less grumpy person today than I've been for the last week . Its been noticeable that the lack of use of a ton of metal, glass, plastic, leather and rubber has had such an effect on me. Now that its back, sounding just like it did before, I'm a happier person

Just wanted to share my happiness with the world !!

Good to hear!

What was the final prognosis as to the problem?

Either the garage (both the local one that did the work, and Blackpool who looked at the head) can't or won't tell me exactly, except to say that a piston and a few valves had an unplanned meeting. There were no immediately identifiable reasons for this, the pistons did have a few heat spots on them, so perhaps the mixture was running too lean, but that not a good enough reason in itself; perhaps the engine felt left out of the aural explosion, what with the de-catted-sports-exhaust-bang-crackle-crack-cacophony going on at the back, maybe it just wanted to get noticed?

Have they changed anything so it won't happen again?

I always thought that if this happened it was hello to a big bill and goodbye to the block on it's return to the seaside. Sounds like you had a narrow escape!

The car is under warranty, so no big bills, The garage tell me that the guy who worked on it locally is one of only a couple of people that the factory will let loose on the AJP, as he's ex race technician. However I would be more assured if someone could say "it's definately this..... because of this...... that caused the problem", but as no-one seems to to know, then I'll have to be happy with the fact that it was repaired as quickly as it was, for free and that at least I didn't have to poodle around in a Citroen saxo during the repair time.

I am no expert, but it may have something to do with what was discussed here www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?f=8&h=0&t=17485
