Of course the weather has been really really nice for the last 3 weeks whilst I went about replacing various bits on the car. But now it’s bloody awful until Friday.
I’m sure I’ll have polished it a couple of times by then…

Always the way, I'm running out of weather here in the UK, and so I'm trying to just enjoy the process of getting through jobs - currently the dual gauge smile

Just had a look at the pedal end. Did you guys remove the vent panel under the steering wheel and also the cow’s udder? Can’t see how you’d access the pedal end of the cable otherwise..

I didn’t remove anything, instead I reached a hand through an opening (above the vent pipe but under the dash) and just felt the top of the pedal and cable etc.

In the end I was able to do everything at the pedal-end this way. I was able to feed the new cable through the little nylon bushing in the top of the pedal and then into the cable housing in the bulkhead. I was then able to keep feeding the cable and even added some grease to the last 3” or so, until it was all fed through.

I sat on the floor next to the car, legs splayed out under the open door, with my left arm reaching down through the opening under the dash.

Hope it works for you!

Hmm well I removed said stuff and have threaded the new inner through. Now that I can see what’s what, I might be able to do it blind next time smile

My new cable came with a swage (if that’s the right term: small, lead-coloured, bullet-shaped thing). DuncanM, did you crush that onto the throttle end of the cable as an extra gripping device or just use it to stop the cable popping out?

Hello,

I couldn't trust the swage, that's why I have the nipple and hollowed out crimp arrangement.

The same as Imran, all by feel the pedal side, whilst sitting on the floor smile

All done. I decided to splay the ends of the new cable…

…and add some solder:

Not the neatest finish but should stop it pulling through. This was after I’d decided to use two nipples. Talk about paranoid rolleyeshehe

Old cable compared with new:

Well done Rog, I too am paranoid about the one single nipple giving up, so I’m planning on getting a second one.
I have a spare but it’s much larger, and in my testing I found it could easily get wedged (beyond 80% throttle) and keep the throttle open - that’s the stuff of true nightmares!

On my car, that little wire brush you’ve made there, would foul the vacuum line to the servo - assuming that’s not the case in your setup.

You weren’t tempted to remove the ball-swage from the old cable, drill it out and use it to keep the new cable between the semi-circular plates? That way, if you ever open the throttle manually from the engine bay, the cable can’t pop-out.

No, couldn’t be bothered with that smile. Don’t think it’s fouling anything but will grind off the spikes for a neater job. Cheers
