Gentlemen dont forget when you finish the repairs of an insurance catagory c or d vehicle it is advisable to get the car inspected by autolign. They are an insurance / hpi approved test and inspection centre. The checks include full chassis alignment tests etc and a successful inspection will be recorded with hpi stating that the car is safe and correctly repaired. At the end of the day if you prang your car and the dealer repairs it who carries out the final inspection? certainly not an independant accredeted test centre. In my opinion ther is nothing wrong with repairing these cars as long as they are inspected. Dont forget if the insurance company didnt want the car back on the road they would have crushed it.

The insurance company would never crush a car if they could get some cash for it (in this case Douglass Valley bought it...)

Rich,

Were you considering doing any of the work yourself ??As has been said before the car is un-economical to repair if you take it to a TVR approved shop, so you're not going to get a better car for the money by paying someone to fix it

I would guess that "parts to repair" would include the glass sections

Also agree with Mel car will be worth 65-75% of the book value once repaired

The glass repair is easy, but time comsuming and will be probably £3000 of the £5500 you've been quoted, if you do it yourself you won't get a better car for the cash. For the extra £3k you could buy a crash damaged one all fixed for another £3k you can get one that's not one the register.

Have you got an extra £6k, would you be happy with something less exotic

Personally I wanted a serp engine and £15k for two year old chim with 10,000 miles worked for me

My 2p's worth is the best use for this car would be to make a cracking Tuscan challange car from the bits, use the engine for the Tuscan, sell the interior off to some one, got to be worth £1k, strip off all the other bits and sell them on, in general the some of the bits is worth more than the whole

God no! I haven't got a clue about fibreglass and the process of repairing the car.

I've just never understood the stigma attatched to a damaged repaired car. I like the fact that I would have saved a considerable amount on the car, after repairs. I seem to see all the benefits but with TVR's it is a different ball game and with that Cerbera, like you said, it isn't economical.

As for the market value of the car, I wouldn't be too concerned, as I would be keeping it for some time.

I wasn't expecting the repairs to run into much but I have had some conservative estimates and it was just far too much. I think I was being a bit too optimistic, I just love the Cerbera but in reality I haven't got the sort of money to buy one, a Chimaera is in my range but I though this might be a chance to get a Cerbera for Chimaera money.

There was a crash repaired Cerbera in loot for £15000, you could haggle some more off probably, so you could have one that’s already been repaired.

Me neither

Yeah I'd have bought it, if it had come up the same time as mine, but I do love the convertable, Tuscan next I think !!
