Won't LEDs be rather bright? I find the current lighting rather distracting, and I would have thought that LEDs are even brighter?

I'm quite interested in doing this too, so I shall be following your progress, mate!

I can't even tell whether the current lighting is on so any discoveries you make fitting brighter ones will be most welcome over here.

Keep up the good work !

Update - I am receiving the first kit I put together tomorrow, hopefully take pics a long the way - including solder burns knowing my luck! Mine are pretty dim at the moment, plus I love the white/blue LED clarity... and one bright LED, should brighten it all up.
I bought an extra set just in-case it's really good I can let one of you guys have them too. (aren't i nice) I’ve intended not to be drilling etc, just straight replacements, too many LED’s and it will be too bright. but if the single replacement is not enough i will have to rethink.

I’ve spoken to the supplier and I can get the various ranges of colours, purple to white red, yellow orange, so effects to suit the car colours just have to remember how to remove the top dial cover.

If you mean the instrument binnacle, it's two wing nuts either side that you reach by sliding your hand up under the steering column...

Really interested how you get on here...i have 5 ultra bright Blue LED'S in the garage, (along with some red, green and yellow if anyone wants a couple!), and my car just happens to be blue

Dean are you using 12V LED'S?

Again I warn - beware - these LED clusters often shine the light out of the front of the package rather than all around like an incandescent lamp does.

I suppose you could say they're unidirectional rather than omnidirectional (to use a microphone analogy) so you might not get the illumination you desire!

I know someone who was going to use them for his stop/tail light and of the pictures I've seen, the standard bulb gives off a 'brighter' spread of light. Suprised quite a few people.

Are you sure? They look to me like W5W sidelight bulbs -- far too big for dashboard bulbs.

Yep, positive. Here is the spare one that came with my new Temp gauge.

It says its a 12V 2.2W and has the part no SLI 510 written on it too

Still looks very similar to a W5W -- 12V, 5W, although it's hard to ascertain size from your picture.
