Has anyone actually sold a car successfully or been scammed in any way by Jonatan Sigvard at all ? I have recieved the same email asking for further photo's ?

I am pretty trusting but reading some of the comments have made me wary.

Where as I on the other hand, don't trust anyone, even my dad, and I've known him 36 years.

I'm going to hazard a guess here, that nobody's sold this guy a car.

In a lloyd Grossman voice, "lets look at the facts, he asks for pictures of every car for sale in Britain, right hand drive no problem, as he wants to use them in Europe. He needs anything from a Volvo to A TVR..."

How much more evidence do you need, apart from him actually telling you verbally that he's going to rip you off ?

Hi Chaps, I was searching for the Jonatan Sigvard's name when I came across this forum so I thought I'd add my comments.

I got the exact same format email EXCEPT this time he was from Kastrupvej, Copenhagen, Denmark.

This guy must move around a lot ! So purely based on that I would be suspicious, AND it was for my girlfriends Yaris which was advertised on Autotrader, so hardly a car he would have trouble sourcing in Denmark.

I have a scandanavian friend who I will ask to do some digging around and if I find anything I'll come back here and post.

I'd be REALLY surprised to find a private buyer let alone a trader buying from Denmark. the import tax on cars is astronomical, any buyer would be looking at paying about 140% of the sticker price when new in import taxes to bring a cerbera into denmark. that would mean paying about 65-70K for a standard 12.5K 4.2 cerbera.

he is probably a joker.

I am trying to sell my Polo at the moment and have had 2 emails from JONATAN SIGVARD. I have also had emails from different names/addresses that are practically identical to his (spelling errors included!). I'm not sure what type of scam it is , but it is definitely dodgy! How about the following clues:
- Wanting to buy a car that you have never seen.
- The emails always asks for the same information, despite the fact that all that information is in the Autotrader advert where they got my details.
- The early reference to a bankers draft
- Request for bank account details, phone number, addresses (sounds like an identity theft scam to me)
etc etc

My response has been to reply that I do not intend to sell the car overseas, but if they can get back to me with details of a registered UK shipping agent whom I approve I will negotiate further. I stress that I will not release the car to anyone until I have cleared funds in my account. Funnily enough, they don't normally reply!

Hm, guys, apart maybe from this Sigbart guy, there actually are honest people byuing cars from Brits, funny as it sounds.
Just dont give your car away before the money cleared in the account and cannot be withdrawn anymore.

With prices for new left-hand drive TVRs in Europe what they are, buying second hand is the only option, and with second-hand prices for TVR over here, it is hard to not make a bargain, even with an average car.

I was wondering if when one day buying my Cerb, I would use someone like Ingelby or not. But reading your comments, Ingelby might be necessary. Not for inspecting the car, just to reassure Brits because the buyer comes from the Lawless States of Europe.
Don't watch too much "Danger abroad"!

P.S.: How do you recognise counterfeited pound notes?

Hi,

got my 911 on the market (sorry for cross posting, but its relevant!) and got a mail from this guy Sigvard - sounds like a scam, but has anyone got any real evidence, or is everyone just keeping well clear out of self preservation?

btw, i'm ignoring him after an initial reply (got the shipping agent spiel!)

cheers,
cleo

might shed some more light.

Sick to death of these tts, can spot them a mile away now though. Always an idea to look in the email header, look up the IP on dnstuff.com and boom, 9/10 it'll be from Nigeria/Ghana. On my classifieds site I've now taken to banning all of Nigeria, Ghana and the majority of Africa itself (along with various other measures).

The most annoying is when you get one of these tts on your eBay auction, then you're properly screwed, as they'll win the auction, want to overpay, you report them, have to relist, eBay will still charge you the final fee/percentage from the original auction, etc, hassle x100...

The worst site for it is ukkarting.co.uk, you get NAILED there right now, about 20/ad (although I believe they're sorting that out asap). I would love for the classifieds sites to get together and publish ban lists ala - www.racedandrallied.com/templates/security.html#2 so we can start getting rid of these time-wasters.

I replied to an email just recently from a Guy in Denmark claiming to be a used car dealer. First name 'Jonatan'.

It seemed genuine at first, but now he has come back with a story about a shipping agent that will come along to collect the car once his cheque has cleared, so it appears he is looking to buy the car without actually seeing it?!

He obviously has some photo's, but its just struck a suspicious chord. Really unsure whether to bother replying again, just wondered if anyone else who is selling had had an email from the same guy, which would make sense if he is a used car dealer looking at Cerbera's at the moment.

email me if you want more details....

Hello,
Yes I have received an email from a "Jonatan" from Sweden offering to buy my vehicle without seeing it & wanting my full details!

He has given of his shipping agent in the UK & his mobile number!!!! I would never pass these details onto anyone & would never realise the car until the bankers draft cleared, please come back to me to advise what happened inyour case.

My vehicle is advertised in the Auto trader.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Does he mean release, not realise?

Edit: and is it only me reading his email and hearing it in a dutch voice?

I can probably answer this for Robert.... He's either been shafted to the tune of "what ever our Nigerian friend has overpaid for the car" .... or.... and hopefully, more likely, he's either still got the car or sold it to someone in a normal manner. e.g. Turning up with the cash.

As opposed to the "I'll pay you five grand more than your asking, please forward four grand of it to my pal in Gambia" routine
