Removed the cats at the weekend - the car already had sports silencers anyway and BOY! is that loud on full throttle!

On my private test track (shared with some other people) the sound when reflected back off other traffic on full throttle is absolutely ear-splitting. I could just about put up with it at idle/pootling, but it sounds like i've got absolutely no silencing when you put yer clog down ..

I think i'll have to complete the conversion and buy a standard rear box .. one thing's for sure: I don't think it'll pass any track-day noise tests

I was stood by one (a Cerb) at TMS when one of the mechanics started the thing up.

Christ, it was THE loudest car I've ever heard - I suspect no cats plus full sports exhaust.

Nice to hear occasionally but I'm not sure I could have lived with it everyday.

Respect I SAID RESPECT to those that do though ...

Funnily enough it's not *that* much louder at idle than before - perhaps a little when manoeuvering (sounds more hollow) but it really kills your hearing when you use the loud pedal!

I was up at Joolz' the other week and a chap came by in a rosso Cerb with standard backbox and decat. He drove by me when I was walking into Chesterfield (not to be recommended, btw) and it was really quiet. But rumour has it that it gets much louder when pressing on. I think that's the ideal - quiet at idle, and loud when 'largin' it.

That was me!

Couldn't put me foot down as it was damp & there was a queue at the roundabout!

What time did your exhaust arrive?

Nick.

vroom - excellent - your car was probably the cleanest one i've ever seen!

Sadly the exhaust didn't arrive. So after spending 4 hours wandering the streets of Chesterfield with a stinking cold and a limited supply of snot-rags it was all in vain So I went home with the de-cat pipes only, hence the faffing at the weekend. Looks like I might have to pay him another visit to get the back-box fitted.

So come on - is it true what I said; quiet at idle and loud at full throttle? I can't be without the crackling and banging, but it's a little on the LOUD side at the moment!

PS. No sound files - depending on how much time I get, I might see if I can get the missus to do a bit of videoing. Maybe in the dark to see if I can capture some flames ..

I like your style .. but you're in the middle of nowhere. I'm in tropical Surrey - lots of tutting mums and scowling policemen.

Anyway, you're not allowed to play - yours is for sale!

What kind of soundtrack do you get from the Speed Six?

Is there a lot of difference from the V8's?

hi Marc
your back box is here just begging to be fitted (!).
incidently I fitted intermediate silencers to another 4.5 cerbie the other week with sports pipes (the excellent JP versions) and that sounded great too. Trouble is it works out at the same price as the good s/hand back box so nothing really to be gained on your car.

Yes, sounds very different ! Down to your own taste I guess...

Quote from Top Gear

"ironically the straight six sounds even more exciting than the V8's. The mearest blip of the throttle causes the revs to rise and fall monsterously quickly, making it feel more like a massive multi-cylinder motorcycle motor than a car engine "

Going to get flamed by the V8 boys now !

I had a couple of pipes fitted in place of my cats and the change is awesome.

The car sounds the same at idle but a lot throatier when you are caining it some.

I can recommend it to all.

If thats what a six is like then I'm glad I chose a V8. Wife's getting sick of me revvvving too much when going into reverse on our drive.

Cheers very much!

And sourced by Mr Agger!!

(That's two big beers you owe me now James! )

Can't really comment on how the cars sounds against a catted Cerb, but very quiet on idle / part throttle - but sounds the dogs danglers when you floor it. Not done too much of that yet - the car still scares me!

Now where's that polish...?

Don't know if you're interested but there's some sounds saved last night under the forum "Tamora & T350 > SOUND WAV"
