After doing a back-to-back in similar aged (and priced) 4.5 and Speed 6, the Speed 6 has it's hands down. It's smoother and more enjoyable to drive, more talkative steering and better screwed together in general, although perhaps lacking the rawness and noise of the V8, although I'm sure a decating might assist there

Granted the 4.5 will is better at the top end (>100) and probably on track too, but as the majority of the cars life won't be spent in those conditions; the Speed 6 with it's better spread of torque through the rev range will be a more usable car in my opinion.

I was always convinced that the 4.5 was the car for me, and perhaps it was just this particular example, as I don't remember the one I drove before being quite so rough, I will try a few more 4.5 before my final decision, but at the moment I'm well and truly in the Speed 6 camp.

Perhaps if the car was just for me (not wife and family) I'd have stuck to my idea of the 4.5, as I've yet to own a V8 and experience the noise, but once the children get too big for the Cerbera, I'll be in the market for a two seater again...

Just another quick thought before you make up your mind..

do speed sixes produce flames from the exhausts?

Anyone who watched my arse braking into the esses on Monday would have seen two lovely little licks of orange lighting up the tail pipes.

Its childish I know but if we were sensible adults we would all be driving Porsches.

I tried the V8s before buying a new Speed 6. Speed 6 sounded less like a tractor than V8s that I drove, was more comfortable ride, was easier on the clutch but still had enormous presence and great sounds.

I still feel that Speed 6 is more refined than V8s, but I can see why purists go for V8s (especially when you see a V8 making mincemeat of the competition on the Clarkson video).

Forgot other big factor in my choice of Speed 6: my wife preferred it (and still loves it).

The only other TVR option for me was the Tuscan S. Griff sounded great (and I preferred it to Cerb V8), but I just don't like the styling.

In driving terms I prefered the speed six. Just smoother and more torque low down the rev range. In performance terms I am no expert but could not discrimate between the 2 V8's or SP6. In the end I went for the car in best condition/price.

I must admit the sound of the V8 was something else especialy with a sports exhaust. The SP6 sounds a bit "clattery" (think pots and pans banging together) especialy before it is warmed up.

Me too, I tested the V8's and the S6 and decided I prefered the slightly "softer" S6.

You could tell the 4.5 was a bit quicker (with a great soundtrack), but I don't know whether I could have lived with the shockingly hard ride, as I use my Cerbera as an everyday car. (The clutch was nightmare on the V8 as well but this may have been car specific)

If you're buying the Cerbera for a weekend toy, might as well get the V8, if you're going to be doing plenty of miles, have a look at the S6.

At the end of the day, the S6 is hardly slow is it?
