This week i will be fitting the HID Xenon lights i've purchased. My problem is that the Cerbera i own uses the dim dip lighting system. When my sidelights are on with the ignition it also lights the dipped headlamps up either through a resistor or in series so they are dimmer than on normal dipped beam. This is a problem as it will power up the Xenon's when i have just my sidelights on and ignition. There must be a single wire i can snip to disable this. Dose anyone know which one it is before i crawl all over the car with my multimeter?

There is a pic on here of a modified circuit board which I think is the solution you are after.

It was posted about 18 months ago by alinton.

Check his profile and search his past posts and you should find it that way.

Right thanks for that, i had a look but i think they were talking about making the dipped lights stay on after the car had the later headlamp conversion. The dipped turns off on the single H4 type bulb like on the early cerb's when the main beam is switched on. Mine dose this already. Must have had the mod with the light conversion? There is mention about cutting a wire to remove the dim dipped 7v as it is refer'd to. This is what i need to know. Which one removes the 7v when on the side lights with the ignition on? I really want to be certain before i snip. Many thanks for your quick reply by the way! Guy.

You need to find the 'Dim/Dip Switching Unit' it's in th boot, on the Drivers side on top of the petrol tank. Just snip the Black/Red wire, it's as simple as that.

Hi i just wanted to thank you again. I fitted the Xenon's earlyer, i snipped the wire as advised and it did the trick spot on. If only everything was this easy to find out and sort.

If i had my car with me i'd nip out right now and take one for you. If you locate the dim/dip control box there is only one Black wire with Red stripe coming out of it and thats the one you need to snip.

i dont think i have a control box like that.

is your car a coverted twin headlight job? or did it come from factory like it?

It has Tuscan headlights, blended, and its a '99 model, so I assume it was converted after-factory.

I thought all cars had that box, irrespective of the headlight setup?

It seems there are two types - alintons is like mine (2000/W), and Shayne posted a picture of his which has different wiring. Perhaps the next step is to measure the voltage from the snipped wire (not sure if it's an input or an output) for various positions of the headlight switch and Shayne can probe his wires for likely candidates and try disconnecting them. I can do that this evening if you think it will help?

any help is a bonus guys,

ill get the probes out later and try and find a 7v wire whilst my hids are flickering.

if you could tell me the typical voltage to expect on this unknown wire i should be able to pin point it with the multi meter.

Just had a look. I measured the loom end of the severed wire which is 9.6v with the headlights on (no doubt supposed to be 12v), 0v with sidelights on and 0v in the off position. I couldn't measure the box side because my dim/dip box is on a very short bit of the loom and I can't pull it out enough to get at it. I imagine the wire would normally carry the 7v or whatever it is, so have a probe around. Finding an earth is tricky, neither of my boot courtesy light wires appears to be an earth, but then my courtesy light doesn't work hehe. I used the earth for my amp which was a pro install and I assume is good. Good luck!
