The rebuild begins......again.
Discussion
As a lot of you will know I crashed my cerb just after spending 6 months doing a comprehensive refurb on it. The insurance company classed it as a cat C due to chassis damage but I have decided to go ahead and rebuild it. It may not be the most sensible thing to do financially but it is too nice a car to scrap.
I have sourced a chassis and the parts needed and will be picking them up next week sometime. The guy that treated my chassis parts last time will be doing treating the chassis. It is going to be shot blasted, zinc sprayed and then powdercoated. I spoke to plasticman who is going to be the brains and a large proportion of the brawn behind the rebuild and he said that galvanising the chassis significantly increases the weight so that option was ruled out.
The plan is to have the new chassis on the far side of the garage and inbetween that and the car a space for the old chassis. The body will be lifted up and the old chassis slid out sideways so all the running gear can be swapped one onto the new chassis. The old chassis will then be pulled out the way and then new one slid underneath the body. It should not be too difficult to swap the parts over as all the parts on the old chassis were refurbed with new bolts.
I am hopefully picking up the chassis next tuesday so that is when the real work will start.
At the moment I am stripping out the interior which is going to be partially retrimmed.
A couple of pics of the car in its current state.

Mark, I'll be keen to see how you perform your body lift.
Also, I'd be happy to come along and take pictures of the relevant bolts etc and lend a hand when reuqired.
We currently (as a Cerbera community) have a good reference guid for a body lift and really we could do with one with so many being started.
Drop us a line if I can help at all.

If I'm right lifting the body is something like an eight man job (so the manual says) - perhaps one for the Surrey TVR community to help you with if you can fix a date?
And that's a BARE shell.Anything attached, doors, dash etc you can start adding more people!
DIYCerb said his took 10 I think but he left doors etc on.
Well done for carrying on regardless of financial sense. Eventually it will make total sense and be extremely interesting to a lot of future restorations. Keep up the good work and if you need hands for that lift, let me know, I did a Triumph spitfire ground up rebuild, that was a heavy 4 man lift off!
Thanks for all the offers of help chaps - very heart warming!
According to Dave (plasticman) we only need the two of us plus some jacks to lift the body. However people are more than welcome to come round take pictures/help/watch and laugh etc I am in Ashtead Surrey. It won't be until week after next until the parts are back form the powdercoaters so that is when I guess the rebuild will begin.

I'm only up the road in Dorking and could with a bit of notice borrow the small HIAB and some slings from work.
On the other hand, one of ten to help hand lift sounds like a photo opportunity not to miss!
Can you handle the parking for 10 Cerbs?
Steve
And a Sag I am in Epsom if you need a hand I'm only up the road in Dorking and could with a bit of notice borrow the small HIAB and some slings from work.

I have got parking space for probably 20 cars if they can go on grass I'm only up the road in Dorking and could with a bit of notice borrow the small HIAB and some slings from work.

The offer of the HIAB is very kind but I don't think we will need it. Plasticman said he is used to do this thing on his own so we won't actually need much help but people are more than welcome to come along and see how it is done. Plasticman reckons we can get it all done in a day which would be cool! Not sure if it's going to happen on a weekday or a weekend though but I will keep this thread updated.
If you can make it a weekend - then it sounds like it should be a PH Drive out for sure ..
If you can keep the thread up to date and let me know the full address, I would love to pitch up and lend a hand for the body lift if required else just a good excuse for a drive out and lend moral support
