Top work.

As for throwing nothing away, I gave a work colleague an old ww2 army vice I'd been given for his workshop he's building.
He wanted a whitworth spanner so he could dismantle and paint... I had one to fit from the box of my dads old tools.....
Love it, tools are one of the few guilt free pleasures for me, buying and hoarding smile

Ah, that explains something. My sump is the early type which has a channel through it to take oil from the oil pump over to the other side of the engine and on to the oil cooler so I don't have that extra oil hose getting in the way. Well done for your perseverance!

Firstly:- A Big "Thank You !" for all your kind and encouraging comments. bow

PH is such a wonderful place of of compassionate Peeps, whose general philosophy is to help and laugh with other GearHeads.

It's Paradise that it exists thumbup

Secondly: A quick update.

Having run the Victory Lap around the garage with a beer held high after my last news, I realised that I hadn't, in fact, solved my problem.

After chatting with a mate, who came over to visit, he pointed out that I had (originally) emptied the Reservoir of ATP whilst the engine wasn't turning and, therefore, the leak from my system must have been from the low-pressure side.

So, I returned to try and find he Jubilee Clip, which retained that pipe onto the PAS Pump.

biggrinlaughbiglaughheherofl I hear you chortle, no doubt.

The Circlip is not visible from ANY angle
BUT
Following DuncanM's handy hints, I managed to cut off the heat protection wrapping of the l.p. pipe, lean on the manifold and follow the pipe down to find the Clip - All totally out of sight.
I then managed to get the correct ¼" drive ratchet socket on it and eventually (after about 120 quarter turns) managed to free the clip on the pipe.

Unfortunately after another hour's worth of blood-curdling screams at trying to pull the pipe off - all of which failed banghead , I sat down with another Cuppa and re-thought about the situation.
If I were to be (eventually) successful in pulling the pipe off, I was sure that there would be no way for me to put the new one back on. yikes

So, I decided to follow ridds's suggestion and circumvent the use of the standard pump by fitting a Citroen Saxo electric one.

Now, as you all know, I am a Dullo so my next questions are:

....Does it matter what year of manufacture it is ?
.........( Coz the Web says they were produced from '96 to '04)

....Where, in the Fuse circuits, should I splice this Pump into ?

Once, again. Big Thanks to anyone who can lend a hand (in whatever format) smash

Ta !

Wow - you had me there for a moment - I thought you said you were going to retrofit a Saxo electric pump, because it was tricky to remove the lower pressure return hose to the PS pump!

Silly me, I should be able tell when you're winding us up...

Oops, sorry, I guess 360 words was a bit over the top, Paul thumbup
It was 'replace' not 'remove'. thumbup

I have since found that the Saxo ones have a bit of a failure reputation so
I might choose an Opel / Vauxhall one (or maybe a Merc) ?

(Particularly interested in the Ford PAS Oil Cooler towards the end of that post)

I would just cut it off if you're struggling, replacing will be easier, with a bit of lube.

I believe Paul's point is that it's a bit crazy to suggest that adding a pump, and all it entails, might be easier than removing/replacing one hose smile

Thanks Guys,

I didn't mean to indicate a sense of humour failure there - It certainly was not meant.

Like so many of the 'little jobs' I've found on this car (Having to take the Fuel Injection System apart to replace the 'FanBelt' was a classic), I often think, Shirley that can be improved upon.
Unfortunately, as Mrs. Cerbera will testify, my hitrate is disappointingly low, so trying to tighten a clip, which you can't see, onto the end of a pipe, which you can't see, over an engine port, which....guess what ??, rates high up there with 'the unmentionable trying to eat the inedible'
sooo
I would prefer to make the system more 'User Friendly' and I thought ridds's idea was brilliant.

Just shootin' the breeze, really.

Thanks, once again, for your replies thumbup

Paul, just to put it into context, your car has taken twenty (?) years to throw a leak on this PAS hose... bad design? ...or amazingly long lasting?
And if you replace said hose, like-for-like, isn't it a safe assumption that you wouldn't have to do it again in your tenure?...

Indeed, the Cerbera is very well put together in my experience (owned for 18 years).

Thanks Lads, much appreciated thumbup

Perhaps if I spent more of my time actually trying to complete theses little jobs rather than moaning about them, the horizon won't seem so desperate.

All the Best,

PJ

Love your posts on here, the humor always shines through and makes me smile smile

The original design and layout of the ps hoses isn't awful, I would have another go at pulling it off (ooh err mrs), then replace like for like.

Good luck.

We're only talking about replacing the hoses, not the pump smile

Hi Guys,

This is NOT a cry for help (for once), it's just a post to offer y'All a little light relief on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

As you may be aware, in an attempt to remove the PAS pipes, I sawed off the Ol Pump Pipe at its base.

I thought, I'll get that off with a 32mm box Spanner but, guess what ?, the 'head' of the pipe is larger than 32mm so it won't fit over that obstruction.

Never to be defeated, my latest set up involved sawing 2 teeth, into opposite sides of the head, in order for me to get some purchase on it with a Pipe Wrench.
My pathetic, under-developed body still couldn't budge it
Soooooo
My latest attempt, pictured below, was to use a stainless Tie-Wrap to tie the closed jaws on the pipe head then, supporting the Wrench with a Trolley Jack, I attempted to clout the whole assembly with Thor's Hammer !! smash

No prizes for guessing what happened ! banghead

Have a good wince & chortle laugh

I've always considered owning a Cerbera as a form of masochism, but this is next level stuff!

Mend well Paul, that must have hurt.
