Gallardo owners?
Discussion
Very, very helpful thread this. Please keep the impressions/verdicts coming as time goes by.
Impressed with the 996 Turbo. No problem seeing 100 plus on B roads and unclassifieds, although it's a bit white-knucle with tractors often appearing from nowhere!
But. The 996 lacks something for me - I can't pin it down - maybe I miss the Italian brio. Anyway, the only other device which really interests me is the Gallardo.
Might as well have a last fling (not that sort of fling)!

Dont you think that the very thing the 996 lacks the Gallardo lacks also?? that my kind of feeling.
The biggest conern though is value and depreciation.
In Autocat this week there is an article named 'gallardo residuals in freefall' after only 6 months- so clearly many find it too expensive at SSP.
Yes, I see your point, and yes, the Gallardo is over-priced, but against that I think it's appearance breaks new ground - I could sit and look at it all day!
There isn't much to choose between it and the Turbo performance-wise, with the Gallardo having the edge, but I think it may feel different enough to be worth the change from Porsche.
Not happy with the 997 as a replacement for the 996 - too similar, and that would be the only alternative (when the 997 Turbo arrives).
I've never been a 911 fanatic - much preferred the 928, but it always seemed to be a 'big' car when you chased it really hard (surprisingly, even bigger than the Daytona). Maybe the Gallardo is the best of both worlds?

Gents,
On the basis my Gallardo arrives at 4pm today (no sleep last night), I admit I'm biased but...what a load of bo****** Autocar had in it yesterday. The only sub £100k Gallardo you can buy is a LHD one! Shock horror...a LHD Lambo is 20% cheaper than a RHD one....if anyone can find me a RHD Gallardo for less than £100k I'll buy 10 of 'em! How is this deemed newsworthy?

Well the article in Autocar referred to Sant Agata classics in the North who are supposed to have RHD cars.
I think the point is that at the moment there are only 2 lambo dealers and they will milk it for all its worth so we wont see proper values until the froth comes of the market.

You're right, they do have RHD cars....at £123k. I think it's safe to assume that the Gallardo is £10-20k too toppy BUT...if thats the case, either wait a year or dive in and live with it. The thing I objected to was the impression that you could buy a Gallardo for 'five figures' - with only two dealers, they do seem to have the market cornered but doesn't this work both ways? As long as supply is limited - values are retained, as soon as numerous 'specialists' pop up - then you'll see values ease back. I think the best way to enter these things is to assume you'll lose 10 - 20% in year one and if you can deal with that - do it. You only live once after all (I keep telling myself that...)

Just reading your posts now and wondering just how BIG the smile on your face must be right now?
6.5hrs of ownership bet it's great. I suppose it's not strange that we haven't heard any more from you today.... Lets think - Gallardo / PH? Close call but I think I can guess which one one!
Can't wait to hear your comments.
