Andrew it wouldn't be a requirement.

If you imagine a long but thin garage. You have two guide rails running the length of the garage. Slotted between is a tray for the wheels to sit on. The tray will have its own rollers. The two guides will be just that guides.

In fact Matt if you are local to the Kent area I could pop round this weekend if you wish and take some measurements and work out a cost of putting one together as the idea has me quite intrigued.

it would be good to have an idea of time/ cost probability etc. Love finding solutions to problems.

I'm intrigued (I love a gadget), but I'm in Northampton.

Happy to take measurements / provide photos though.

Sounds a plan. Mind if I pm you details of what I would need?

That garage looks like mine from the inside. Get your car out of my garage. No, wait a sec... biggrin

Ok, stupid question, why not drive it in with the roof down then you just have to climb over the door without opening it/risking banging it on the wall?

It's not a good idea to leave soft top convertibles with the roof down as the material contracts over time and risks splitting when it is stretched as the roof closes. It also leads to prominent crease marks developing.

Apologies for the old thread resurrection. I am mulling over a 360 currently, we have a double garage so there won't be any problems in opening the door. However, I am slightly concerned about getting it in the garage in the first place.

We have had a 456 in there before at a squeeze. My research indicated that the 360 is just 3mm wider, but I'm not sure if this includes wing mirrors or not. Does anybody have any practical experience on how the 2 compare in terms of width? The last thing I want to do is to spend my hard earned savings on a car only to realise it won't fit in the garage when I get home.

Both are slightly narrower than a 550 which can be squeezed into a standard door with one mirror folded

My parents have a single garage from 1970 with for the time a standard size door. I drive my 550 in without problems; I have 1/2 inch on both sides of the mirrors. For the 458, I have to fold both mirrors and still have 1/2 inch on both sides. Bit trickier to reverse out without seeing where you're going... you need to make sure you drive it in exactly straight.

To get back to the question of 2 posts ago: A 456 is 1920mm including mirrors, a 550 is 1950mm including mirrors, a 360 is either 1923mm or 1920mm including mirrors. You should be fine.

The GS will *just* fit through the standard door on the in-laws "double garage with 2 single doors" with the mirrors out, about 2 inches total clearance. Obviously once in it is a doddle to open the door.

For extra clearance I fold the mirrors in, and as the garage already contained most of the old furniture from the last 30 years then it was an easy job to find a couple of mirrored wardrobe doors to prop up on the end wall which means I can easily see the gaps down the side of the car providing it is still light outside.

Strange. I measured a 550 including mirrors the other day and it was 210 cm wide I think, not 195 cm??????

What is the point of building garages nowadays, they are all to small for most cars except maybe small hatch eco friendly type vehicles, frustrating to say the least. But good for you the op for owning your dream car and going for it, try to keep it inside if possible it will be the better for it. Mike
