Right i've been to look at a lovely 575 which i really fancy but thing i have found frightening so far is insurance. Directline (people who do my 911) are talking about £9.5k which is kinda steep.

Anybody have any ideas? I'm 29 and live in london SE16 with the car parked in an underground carpark.

Thanks

Alistair

Try the hi-performance insurance ads in the car mags. Norwich Union used to be in this market, maybe they can "quote you happy".

Email Ninja Eli for advice (He's younger than you). Alternatively do a forum search on insurance.

Edited to refer to Ninja's post a few years ago containing lots of broker contact info:

Look no further than Stuart Eden at First Point. I'm paying less than half that on my Gallardo and I'm a baby (27) compared to an old sod like you!

01604 499 799 - Good luck

Mark Abbott at Cheam would be my next point of call (google him to get number).

Hmm, that's a point. Any ideas or guestimates as to how much more, if any, a '94 348 will be over my Griff? They are both the same insurance group and I would have thought the GRP TVRs cost more to fix body work than even the Ferraris.

I am 41 and only use it for weekends, kept in a garage, live in a quiet village and only do about 6 or 7k a year.

I currently pay £650 on my 5 litre TVR Griffith.

If I'm going to be into several thousands for the priviledge of having a Ferrari in the garage then I guess it'll be a Tuscan after all!

Burriana, as you are over 30 I suggest you give Liverpool Victoria a call. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks to this thread managed to get nearly £500 off my insurance.

I had searched on quoteonline.com (or similar)and forked out £1233 for the Mas 3200 which I was supposed to be collecting from Swindon today but that's another story .

I contacted Liverpool Victoria after reading this thread and they wanted £750 with hardly any of the questions asked by other online insurance companies. Most of 'em add money for speeding fines, would you believe? I mean just cos you've been caught doing 33 past a 30mph speed camera doesn't mean you're a liability!!! (OK, mine was 94.5 past a policeman with a laser gun on the M40, but it all comes down to the same thing )

I had to pay £12 to cancel the first one, but it was well worth it.

Thanks again.

Glad you got a good deal. At my last renewal the savings by moving to them covered the cost of a two year extended warranty on my car.

Hi Daz,

Just to add, that I now use Nowell and Richards (can't recommend Richard enough, fantastic bloke) www.nowellandrichards.co.uk.

As a comparison, my current policy cost me around £2.7K per annum, with a highish excess. 2003 360 Spider, Aged 25, no accidents, 8 yrs NCB, no points and living in London.

Try going with a higher excess as you probably won't claim for anything less than a grand or so anyway and it could help reduce your premium quite considerably.

A Plan were also very competitive, with a very similar price. The difference was the mileage was restricted.

I know this sounds funny but for both my Ferrari & Maserati Tesco Insurance gave me the best quotes.

Also, trying increasing your excess. At the end of the day £500 more could make quite a difference.
