Can't see why you'd spend £10k+ on a replica unless you were trying to pretend to be someone or something you are not? The MR2, especially the turbo is a cracking car in it's own right. Plus you can get a decent GT4 for the same money.

I recently took a collegue out in my 208 GT4. He's got a modded Skyline with silly power, but absolutely loved the whole experience...so much so, he's going to look at a Testarossa next week with a view to buying. Good man

Fully agree. Mine owes me 6K in total, and I enjoy playing with it mechanically. Try buying a Dino for that kind of money, and then try working on it yourself for fun... I know you can get some cheap Ferraris, but they don't appeal to me. Almost anything pre-246 I like, then there's a black hole for me, until the 360 / 456 era onwards. Outrageous cars like F40/F50 excepted, of course.

My 'Dino' isn't anywhere close to being an exact replica, unlike the MR2-355s, where they claim to be identical. Err, no, they aren't...

Shame about the hole in the middle part for you.The weak dollar makes some 308's entirely doable for the more comitted car nut.I am really just a car enthusiast in general and a lover of the marque.I like to encourage anyone to to get a ferrari at some point in there life - just to share the experience.

Is yours a factory kit or did you scratch build it?

Mostly a (very old) factory body kit, sitting on a purpose built spaceframe. If I had scratch built it, it would be millimetre perfect, and would have cost me more than the real GTS I sold once this was completed.

You're right - I personally just don't like the styling of 308GT4/328/348/Testarossa (and some others), so can't see me ever owning one. I will probably buy a 550/575 at some point, as they appeal immensely. I had nearly £50K sitting in my Dino, and it hurt me whenever it was marked. I could happily have £100K sitting in a new car, knowing that they 'just build them in factories' - it's not the same to me. Old cars can't really be replaced.

The MR2 Mk2 was available in 284 BHP turbo's form and is pretty much a super car in it's own right.
(Same Collegue recently had one arson attacked and has just got his money back)

I'm sorry but this is not true, the Rev 1 & 2 MR2 Turbo's are 220bhp and Rev 3 onwards are 240bhp, though they are very easily modified to 300bhp as the 3SGTE engine overfuels so much you can just wind the boost up a bit.

All that aside I think its probably the best bang for buck you can buy as a cheap speedy car. In stock form they hit 60 in 5.2 secs.

As for the conversions they are awful, whilst over all you can make it look similar, if you look at the proportions it is way out, the bonnet just does not look right, then as others have posted you move to the interior and the MR2 has the centre console which then goes up between the seats which a 355 never has.

Insurance on these convertions is just scary for what it is and as soon as you start the engine everyone will know its not real.

There is also a Pontiac Fiero ( <-- Not sure on spelling) but that is pretty rubbish too.

Basically its a waste of time/effort/money for something thats looks a bit naff at the end of the day.

All IMHO of course.....
