Singh - do a search on here in about november last year when I bought mine I had the same problem re alarms. Its not thatcham approved but is to thatcham standards. You can fax the insurer certain docs from maserati / maranellos that confirm this. Its produced in too low quantities to go through the thatcham approval process.

Couple of others of us on here have had to do the same thing. No need for a new alarm!

No problem on the Alarm with Tesco - they just asked if it was a manufacturer fitted device and that was it!

Point 2 and top marks to Mr Richmond - the 4200 does indeed have chain drive for the cams ( teach me to believe what I'm told by so called experts) so no need to replace them for 150,000 miles.

Arggggh, the dangers of doing research!

I spoke with my local Ferrari independent today and they won't touch Maseratis for servicing. He explained that they don't have the necessary software, that parts are difficult to get hold of and more expensive than Ferrari. He also added insult to injury saying that when thay have them in for repairs, they usually find something else that the owner didn't know about. So they come in with one problem that gets fixed, and go back out with a new problem to fix. They therefore say that they don't like to touch them and advised me not to get one - but consider a Ferrari instead!

Like with any car purchase decision, it seems to be a case of who you believe, but I have to confess that it is putting me off.

Tus 373,

If you listened to everything you heard would you really have bought a TVR? Let alone a Tuscan!
I can hardly think of a car with a worse reputation but like me you made the leap of faith, hopefully by being well informed, ultimately its always a risk but there is nothing worth having without it.

Like you said, he 'suggested' you buy a Ferrari instead, well maybe... but surely there is a conflict of interests in a Ferrari independent that tell's you 'he wouldn't touch maseratis' giving you the advice.

Hi Singh,

Yes, I quite agree with you - I would never have bought a Tuscan if I had believed everything I heard!! Also, there is some risk taking involved and truth in the saying "If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you always got...".

With TVR, I have got access to a great dealer, the factory and two independents - all within easy travelling distance.

With Maserati, I would have JCT600 in Leeds, Stratsone in Manchester and no independents. My experience with Stratstone is that despite leaving messages and visiting the showroom - they never return my calls. I would therefore be at the mercy of JCT600 for every eventuality.

I do love the Maserati...but I've had a belly full of car problems this year - (with a Saab of all things!) so I'm feeling sensitive to taking risks. Therefore I will keep looking and listening and see where serendipity takes me!

Thanks for the alarm advice, thought I was going to end up paying out even more money, the car is at maranellos now so I will ask them to mail me some 'security docs' or at least that's what they requested and the insurer is Tesco as well.

Tus373,

Your right to take your time and keep reading, after all I have only had mine ten minutesProblems with your Saab? Funnily enough that was my other car when i had my Tuscan...mine was bombproof though

Ta - I wonder what a 4200 would be worth at 150,000 miles (would it get there?)?

With the 4200 engine chain driven and it being a derivitive of the 360 (whatever that means) does that mean that the 360 replacement will be chain driven also?

Would hit Ferrari agents servicing profits a bit!
