infact,phone up Karl at verdis and see what the drill is.I thought 30000 miles or 3 years is whats in the service book.Not sure though.

A couple of minor niggles:
Walkie talkie conversation

"er, guys. My brakes have gone!"
"How bad?"
"well, my foot's to the floor and I'm not slowing down much - is that bad?"


10 mins cool down and they were fine. Must admit, I was a bit surprised that I'd managed to boil 4 week old brake fluid (and yes, there was plenty of engine braking going on!) Am just wondering if the pipes are showing their age, so when i get the fluid changed I'll enquire about the cost of fitting braided pipes.

Then on the final run up through France I had a screeching sound that sounded as if the gearbox was trying to tear itself to pieces! Turned out to be the aircon pump or compressor that has seized... again... I can only assume simple lack of use.

Apart from that, the car handles great, does 80 in 2nd and appears to like hairpins!

Last owner - 2000 miles in a year... current owner - 3500 miles in first three and half weeks! ... I'm told it's what they're made for


And so as to not hijack the thread completely - I have only heard 3 years or 30k - although I will probably opt for 20k purely to be on the safe side.

my mechanic said 20K or 2 years whichever comes first , and as for the brake fluid boiling, you must be using the wrong DOT number as I have never boiled my brake fluid in 50 laps of a VERY tight circuit.

I'm currently looking for 328/348 s but the 348 was the series one 355s like the 308 was the series one and the 328 series II and this put's me off 348s even though by this stage all the problems should be sorted if there enough miles on the thing

The invoice from the service says "Shell Donax UB brake fluid" part No MC4184/50.

Anyone know whether this is the right stuff to use or not. I don't want to put braided pipes on unnecessarily, but I don't want any nasty surprises again either!

Al,

I run AP Racing 5.1 DOT. Done a few trackdays and never had the brake fluid or brakes fail or brake fade.

But what does that mean compared to the stuff that is in mine? That may well be 5.1 dot aswell?

Never heard of the Shell stuff, I also recommend a good 5.1 and regular changes (annual).

A 348 may be a series 1 355, but the 355 should be series 3 not 2. The 348 TS/TB is series 1 the 348 GTB/GTS is series 2 and supposedly a real improvement. I am currently researching them with a view to buying early next year.

I believe your brake fluid is 4.0 DOT. The higher the DOT value the better it is at high operating temperatures.
