Hi
Im toying with either buying one of the above.
I would like to know the running costs and general overview of both models this will be my first ferrari.
It will be 3rd car garaged not used everyday.
At present i have a M3 evo cab which is great but i am looking to fulfill a dream.
Who in the Ferrari world knows the cars inside out and does car inspections.
any help/feedback would be appreciated.

regards

The Testarossa is a real tempting machine... but that engine isn't half big!

I may be tempted a few years down the line, but I decided to cut my teeth on the "baby Testa" first, a 348 Spider.

I've just razzed that around france, Germany and Switzerland for 2,000 miles not often out of the 5-7k rev band. What a great machine and I would hazard a guess, a lot more chuckable than a big Testarossa.

Have a look at the EuroHoon thread, the "Hairpin Fun" post. Check out the link and you'll see what I mean

I also would recommend the 348 instead of the Testarossa as a first Ferrari. I am looking at buying one in the spring, and have looked at various options, from 365BB (would love one) through 512 TR, 348, 355 and 456/550. I have come to the conclusion that a 348 GTB/GTS will be the best option for me, based on various factors. It will not be my only car so will not get used that much, just to fulfil the dream. I may swap it for an Aston after a year or so, before going back to a TVR for keeps.

My 348 ts has been a great intro to the world of Ferrari, very reliable, only problem was it needed a new clutch, which happens on all cars. As for costs i recon i've spent around £2500 a year for servicing and bits and pieces.

ps. Its the one for sale at Verdi's.

Thanks
You say you have spent 2.5k a year on servicing.
Could you break that cost down as i would only be using my car as a sunshine special at weekends etc.
Does anyone out there own a Testarossa who can give me any feedback.

Mine only used at weekends too, about 4000 miles a year. Costs breakdown somthing like this:

1st year

service £600
4 tyres £550
clutch £550
test pipes £250
scratch spray £100
seat Reconnolise £100
headlight fix £300 (always consult the manual when changing a bulb, DOH!)

2nd year so far, (last 7 months)

service + belts £1600
bumper spray £300
door sills £200

I think thats about it.

the running cost that you read about are not true a belt service on my car is £795 at verdis i have had a ferrari now for six years and never had a big bill if you took it to a main dealer it would cost a arm and a leg but they just rip you off and charge you for everything that you dont need ok you need 12 spark plugs and a bit more oil the only dear bit is the belts but verdis do fixed price belt service and its only once every 3 years

HI everyone
sorry about the delay
I have been very busy with work etc.

After a lot of looking and thinking I joined the FOC and decided to after advice and several viewings

{are paying attention guest}buy a 348tb.The testarossa would have been upon seeking those in the know possibly more expense. As this is my first I will start with a 348.

Its early days,but WOW.
I have been out in it twice so far just before xmas when the roads were dryer and salt free. Its very different from the M3 evo and its very much more a drivers car.
Looking forward to drier weather and joining fellow Owners in drives etc.

Regards

Greg
