Anyone owned both of these lovely motors at some time?

I'd love to hear some stories/experiences and comparisons.....always loved the 996 GT2 and still want to have one at some point...I need more power but a usable car too...

...thinking about spending some notes on power upgrades for the 360 but seen problems with peoples cars with certain upgrades...not sure whether it's worth it or not.

T, are you attending VMax fella??

If so, although they're modified, GuyR & Henry will be there with a pair of GT2's...

Have a look at the stats in the vmax forum..

Ask yourself very carefully why you *need* more power...

GT2s and 360s are very different cars. Have you considered chopping it in for a CS instead?

And if it's mad shots of adrenalin you're after, why not get yourself another marque altogether? Say an Ultima or an R4/500 or something.

May well be more cost effective in the long run, and you can live happy in the knowledge that you have just about the quickest road and track car available, plus an awesome, beautiful and ultra desirable road machine when you're not in the mood.

I've never driven a 911 yet, let alone a GT2. But a mate who is conversant with such matters has noted that you really need to be in the mood with them.

First time I've heard a mag' cough to it was the Autocar article on the F430, but I've felt for a long time that all these cars are sooooo quick now that you have to be very careful when you deploy full power in public (and 99% of the time on British roads it's simply not safe to do so).

And a Mundanotra will do well over 120 on the motorway. So unless you're going on track regularly you only ever get to use a tiny percentage of what they can do....at which point the Caterfields and Ultimas are going to be all around, and past you like a bad rash.

All that said, if you've always wanted a GT2 (ultimate 911 derivative?), scratch the itch

PS Lovely looking 360 you have. Always thought silver suits that car.

...cos I'm a crazy muthafckuer!!

Cheers for the comments Andy, I know these Ultima's and Caterhams etc are bloody quick but I wouldn't like one of these to drive on the road..I need a bit of comfort too...I love the CS but they are still at big money, have been told that early LHD ones will drop quite a bit soon so would definitely consider one of those if they do....But then again, there isn't that much more power over the Modena...I reckon it wouldn't cost ridiculous amounts of cash to upgrade my Modena, performance and handling wise...but I'd definitely lose it all on the resale value, that's where the CS wins...

Oh and Brain, not sure what's happening on the TVR front, I'd rather spend that money on another horse or a very quick Porker for now.

Hi Big T

Good to hear that you are still in search of more power...what about the ECU upgrade we talked about. My mate is still selling his 996 Turbo, with the 509 bhp conversion...quicker than the 360, but does not offer the sense of ocassion, feels a little to uninvolving to drive.

Stick with the Ferrari...you know it makes sense...just push it upto 9500rpm!

ps... the TUBI is off the charts...has transformed the car...also on the look out for a few other enhancements going forward, so let me know what you go for.

Cheers Steve

Nice one Steve...was good to see you the other day.

Knew you'd love the TUBI, what a difference eh? I know what you mean about the sense of occasion, IMO it is in a totally different league to the porkers when it comes to that which is why I am contemplating some power upgrades to the 360.

I know of someone I told you about who had problems with his ECU upgrade so not sure whether to take that gamble or not. Looking at Manu's website, I see there a quite a few other options so gonna chat to him about some costs soon.

If I do go with upgrading my 360, I'm wondering whether to go with the NGT system first or spend the dollars on some other enhancements.

Mail me when you're free to meet up soon.

I dont thnk T has the minerals for one of those, he secretly told me he removed 4 of the plugs from his 360, as it was 'too fast' for him...

Could you imagine you pair rocking up in His and His Diablos ;O

That WOULD be drool worthy... not that you arent already you hansom bugger

In all seriousness, T, GT2 is a stunning motor, but it just doesnt, IMHO, have the road presence of a Pony.. alas to some, its 'just another fcking porsche with a Carry Handle!'

Cheeky bugger!!! Just had a look at the Silver SV again...my word what a machine. Wasn't using my head again and could see myself in that motor...thinking about it though..I probably wouldn't use it as much as I have done with the 360 so the running costs will be kept down...that's the trouble with the 360, it's so user friendly and usable daily that you end up putting mileage on and the bills add up....with the SV I'd know I'd keep the miles down on it and maybe the love life might improve a little too

Well, Tony says the Diablo has done wonders for his pulling power!

Only the other week I saw him out and about with some young stunner in the passenger seat, and if Tony !! can pull in one... Anyone can

/me runs for hills!

Diablo would be something special!!

360 is a beautiful car.. no doubt, but a Diablo, well, its just the Ultimate Pin-up!

Morning T

I think modding the 360 would be a financial black hole, as you don't get that much extra go for your money on non turbo cars.

The Diablo is stunning, and worthy of sustained dribbling....but do the running costs have the potential be crazy?

The GT2 would be a blast, though make sure you lop the ceramic brakes off (and save them top put back on prior to selling) and replace them with a conventional steel set up. If it is not fast enough for you, you could always have it 550'd by DMS or someone. As said the Porker won't have the same sense of occasion as the Ferrai or Lambo but it will offer a financially more stable ownership experience IMHO. Head versus heart as you say!

Best Regards

MOD.
