Perhaps those of us lucky enough to own a 458 don't actually see it as "throwing away our money". The 458 is an great car, ok it's not available in a manual but who wants manual when flappy paddles are this good. Apart from that its got a digital display and if you want to throw yourself into a hedge it will gladly let you.
This digital experience is complete twaddle the same will be said a out the incoming GT3 Porsche until the prices have dropped enough to get into the mainstream. The they'll be the best thing since the invention of the wheel!.
It's a fantastic car, but I would never buy new.
Utterly ridiculous decision to do so IMO. £40 k more depreciation to know someone hasn't sneezed on your precious steering wheel remains incomprehensible.
As for digital, I have driven them and apologies, but they are....far more synthetic than other Ferraris I have experienced, regardless of flappy paddles.
70+ for sale does indicate something's not quite there, regardless of feckless 'sliced bread' man.

I'm with the buying second hand brigade here, although at a lower level. I could afford to get into a 430 spider now, or could have done a few months ago when I got my 550. BUT, for the the prospects of depreciation were still too high. Obviously I can fathom why someone would spec a brand new 458 when an almost identical low miles one could be had for £50k less. But at the end of the day, I don't have to fathom it. I bought a brand new motorbike for £8.5k last year, could have bought an identical lightly used one for 30% less, but didn't as I wanted a new one to my spec as a bit of a treat. To many bikers that's a completely waste of money, to me it was a loss I was happy to incur. Now just multiply my wealth by 25 and you have the person who's happy to buy a new 458 and spank and extra £40k on depreciation smile

They're still mad though wink

to all those detractors I've just bought a lovely 2010 unmarked 458 for £112k. It's got 14'500 on the clock. I've had everything checked. Its got a few chip marks on the front and a stone chip in the windscreen but apart from that its perfect. Bought it from a chap who lost his job six months ago and had a £30k end of term balloon payment to pay on his loan. He couldn't get an offer from a dealer. He's struggling to pay his bills and certainly couldn't muster £30k. To all those who called me an idiot, I salute you !

just seen this post..... got yourself a major bargain there ... and to add in my tuppenceworth to those that think top end cars are selling like hot cakes think again ... old colleague of mine is quite senior at Ferrari and says they have cars sitting there that shouldn't be sitting there at all..especially at this time of year - some of it collectible stuff ...people are not buying things this year so far unlike last ... they are a bit stumped .... probably why dealers are not overly interested in showing semi decent bids unless you are trading in against something new ..... still don't understand why people buy brand new tbh .... I did it last year after getting 40k off new list price but I suppose its relative .. if money is no object then I suppose your view is altered somewhat.... thats a lot of car for 100k sir enjoy to the max ....

I am sure the "Custard" test would suffice.

Why is the advertiser admitting to having failed ? The aim was a 458 for a hundred grand - he was told he couldn't & he hasn't !!

How is unmarked if it has chip marks on the front and a stone chip on the windscreen? And what color combo ?

Sorry but have to agree with th chap above, unpleasant.

confused

Are you commenting on the fact people are congratulating him on getting himself a good deal? Or simply that he managed to get himself a cheap 458?

Either way I fail to see the unpleasantness. We always congratulate people on new purchases, nothing new there and no one is mocking the vendor due to his circumstances. Or should he have given the vendor an extra £10k just for the hell of it? Of course not, everyone here would try and get the best deal they could. I'd wager that the vendor in the grand scheme of things was pleased. If he could have got more selling it to trade, he clearly would have (as would we all). As it stands, he seems to have got a better deal selling it to Johnny997gt2. The vendor has more cash than he would have otherwise got, Johnny997gt2 has a cheap 458 and we're hopefully going to get to see another custardy pic smile

It's possible that he got one for 112, as a dealer friend of mine has bought a few for sub-120, but we do need the custard test.
