It looks like SE season. I put mine up for sale (through Neil as I'm away for most of the summer) and as if by magic 2 other SEs appear in the PH classifieds. I know my mileage reflects how much of a usable car it is, however I'm stunned that the other 2 SEs are up for sale at circa £20k more than mine.

the grey one was last sold 2 years ago, for 87ish, think that yellow one was on sale or sold last year...

Here we go again, nothing constructive to say and pops up as if by magic when VVS is mentioned.

I dealt with Neil and everything was just fine, would go there again if the need arises.

Do those silly posts not come under name and shame anyway?

I've no idea what this shoegirl bloke is referring to but its pretty obviously something negative towards a specific, named company smile

Both the other SE's have done nearly 50k less than your car!! Plus your car has had a wrap put on and took off plus the spoiler.....I think the other SE's should be early £70k's and your car should be closer to £50k. There are cars at circa £63k with a third of the mileage of your car......being an SE doesn't bridge that gap imo.

All,
Many thanks for your replies.
Judging by many comments, this would appear a nice car but the mileage is slightly too high to warrent the current asking price...

I've also been looking at another Gallardo spyder with a manual box. On viewing the car today, its a very tidy car and seems to run very well. Its a late 2006 car with 23k miles and still on its original (Sintered?) clutch. This does worry me re the cost of clutch replacement should the worst happen. Whilst I've done a great deal of research, there doesn't appear to be anything conclusive regarding clutch life. I understand that wear greatly depends on how the cars been driven, clutch wear in early cars was severe and that clutches developed as the car grew older until in 2006 a sintered clutch was fitted as standard to manual cars. Has anyone ever had to replace one of these please and if so, at what mileage please?

My other concern is that the car in question had its first service in 2007 at approx 4500 miles and its next service in 2011 at about 14000 miles - (nearly 10,000 miles in 4.5 years between first and second service). Whilst I personally don't think thats a massive problem and would have done any damage to the car, I do worry about future resale and this putting off future potential buyers. Whats the PH view on this please? I really fancy a Gallardo but it has to be the right one. This could be the right one despite having a couple of bad points...

Personally I wouldn't toucha car with that lack of history, yea maybe missing one service with very low miles but 4.5 years no way. Can you verify the mileage over this 4 years?.

a couple of bad but acceptable points for you may not be acceptable to anyone else..... unless you get the car really cheap, so can sell very cheap.... but then I would worry about buying a really cheap car personally, i'd think it was cheap for a reason..... so, if you are looking to sell soon, then get the best car your money will allow you to buy.... compromise on colour or spec rather than service history and miles.... sure they can handle the miles etc, but with time, parts need replacing just like any car.

now that my car is off the market, i'll speak as a buyer, a position i was in 2 years ago..... i would rather pay top dollar and within budget (or slightly above) for the right car, in the right colour, and right spec, a car which has clearly been loved...... why save a few quid, as it could cost you very dearly subsequently..... if such a car existed, private wouldn't bother me..... for this age car, most aftermarket warranties are capped, the SOGA won't cover everything, as st happens, and is a dealer really going to bend over backwards for a client buying one of their 'cheaper' cars.....

there's no way that i'd own a one year old car and not service it for the next four years !

this smacks of someone using an inde to save a few pennies : hopefully there's a small pile of receipts somewhere

private buyers offering me trade bids and saying they were doing me a favour! others saying I can buy X with loads more miles and less spec for less money.....!! really, you would never have thought that heh...

also, i'm having a lot of fun... silverstone classic next week, and wilton house coming up.... summer hols..... the market is swamped with spyders at the moment, and fake ads from jp, vs and god knows who else.... how do you compete against phantom cars when selling..... and obviously me asking too much for my car...... funny thing is, if paid what i asked, i'd throw in a warranty wise warranty and full detail, and the car would come main dealer serviced before delivery!!!.... isn;t that peace of mind, and is an indie really going to be any better than that!

Terrible isn't it? Trying to sell these sorts of cars ,you either get dealers offering you peanuts,or when trying to sell privately ,loads of time wasters.

funny thing is the dealers are offering peanuts NOT so they can put a massive mark up on the car, they want to buy low, to sell low, so as to flip it quick.... they'd rather volume than big margins..... which is fine, but it plays into the hands of buyers and i think actually depresses the market..... if you can blow 80k on a car, is a saving of 3-4k really that significant??

as I said, as a buyer, I would want the perfect car for more money than save a few quid knowing i've compromised..... and those waiting for the end of summer, well, who knows what next year will be like, better to pay extra and be enjoying life now than sitting on a ipad checking the classifieds!

As 70proof mentioned, too many phony ads. Not sure why Pistonheads allow it, but a lot of the Gallardo state 'NOW SOLD' 'DEPOSIT TAKEN'.

70proof - Knock a couple of grand of your price, forget the warranty and detail and it will sell.

can;t see it helping anyone, even the dealers..... how can anyone price against a non-existant car..... it's like putting my car up for 70k and marking it sold after 2 hrs..... it'll blow the market to peices if the ad is left there as people will then benchmark all other cars vs it..... hmmmm.....

"but i ain;t paying that, that green one, best colour you know, mega spec, lovely car that, well that just sold for 70k, so'll i'll offer you 60k, and i'm doing you a favour as ive got a pocket full of cash...."
