Supercars have moved on a long long way in 10 years. Loved both my F430 spider and 430 scuderia at the time but todays equivalent supercars are in a different league for performance, technology and equipment
The new stuff is in a different league pricewise too.

Law of diminishing returns if you ask me. Twice the price but NOT twice the fun.

i do wonder that if prices ever fall below what your sold your 430 for, that your one man crusade to talk down 430 values on PH might end?

What has this got to do with this thread?
No one is saying it’s a better car than the modern equivalent .... you are missing the whole point of this thread.

.

I agree its a law of diminishing returns at this level but for a 10 year old car I don't think todays prices are too bad in comparison as 3100k spread over 10 years is only £10k p a which is nothing in the world of supercar depreciation.

When I bought my 430 scuderia it was twice the price of the F430 spider but that last 20% makes all the difference and transform the car and experience, but like you say its not twice as good. If we all applied that logic maybe everyone would be driving a new Kia

I’m glad I’ve come across this thread, I like a fool, have been driving around thinking I had a nice fast car, what an embarrassment, oh the shame!

What do you think will happen in another ten years though? maybe I should wait until then before I buy a new car to get the latest stuff.

You could wait and maybe have an old classic ( although thats unlikely with a F430 due to vilumes ) or just change regularly to have the latest and greatest.
I prefer the latter and virtually order a car as soon as i have taken delivery of one.
I already have the next 3 lined up. That way you are never behind the curve

That’s even worse news, you mean to say, as my car ages, it’ll just be a slow, clunky, sad heap of junk?

Thankfully, I’ve lost interest in having the latest of anything just for the sake of it, but I did hope that my car would be just as enjoyable to drive in the future as it always has been.

I’ll like a new song soon which is, as yet, un-written, but I won’t stop liking the ones I already enjoy, in fact, it’s highly unlikely anything new will become my favourite.

It has to be said though, a chap like me doesn’t do much for the future of supercars, it’s thanks to the likes of you lining up new cars, three in a row, that there are nice used ones for me to buy.

Different league, but not a league I can exploit. I think the new cars afford bragging rights over older cars based on speed and power, but people are kidding themselves if they really think they are able to deploy all that power without electronic aids. Look at the McLaren F1. Same power as a 650S but 100X more crash-able!

Agree the need for more power or speed is reaching its limit.
Manufacturers need to engineer more fun back into the cars

Come on guys...... he's been telling about his future purchases for months now and no one has had the decency to ask what they are. It must be killing him.

The limiting factor in the UK is not the car but the roads and the cops.
Fastest car I’ve ever had point to point, in the real world, is my VW Corrado VR6.
Black, anonymous looking.
So, to me, it’s about how a supercar makes you feel......

Why would you order a car that you've never seen, unless you are an idio ..... oh, hang on.

Yeah I guess your average P1 owner must be a complete idiot then rofl

These are not your regulation production cars and the waiting list is greater than the production numbers which does not afford you the luxury of seeing/driving the car in advance of placing a deposit. In the very unlikely event that I didn't like it or my circumstances changed offloading it would simply not be an issue as there would be queues of people desperate for it even at a hefty premium so its a win win.
Sometimes it pays to have a great relationship with the manufacturer and having supported their past products to enjoy the juicy fillets rather than the spare ribs

I’ve got a deposit down on a Urus.
I’ve never seen one.
I think I’ll like it but, if I don’t, I can get the deposit back.

I could not agree more......and lets start with a Manual Gearbox.

I love changing gear and to me if you dirve a sports car just where is the fun flipping a lever - great on the track but not so much fun on a nice twisty road.

but we have all done that debate ....

430s are lovely cars - and I might even have a 3rd one day .....when prices drop back further lol

Folk have been saying cars are "too fast" for decades. But the stopping and handling power always improve to make them ever more usable. Hybrids or full electrics are going to be hitting 0-60mph in 1-2secs in 3 to 5 years and anything not getting to 60 in 3secs or less will soon feel very pedestrian.

Really? And where are people going to use these cars?

What proportion of people are capable of driving a car which does 0-60 in 3 seconds? 1-2 seconds is surely on the verge of being beyond the capability of most in a physical sense, literally.
