Mmmmmmm, not sure about that one. Some (-few-) diesels have better throttle response than some every day commuter petrols . . .

Check out the new Honda and Beemer diesels and come again . . .

When a carmanufacturer will try to make a sportsdiesel I'm sure there's a tasty quick reacting diesel in no time . . . And why did those few nuts put a diesellump in a bike? Not for nice mpg . . .

Dinkel - not sure which petrol engine you'tre comparing the Honda and BM diesels to? But these are acknowledged widely as the best diesels out there at present.

Compare them to the very best petrol engines (and let's face it, Supercars should be thus equipped) and you will still have no comparison.

And anyway, diesel will ruin your Gucci loafers when filling up. And it stinks - the young blonde in the passenger seat won't take too kindly to that.

Well Murph, i don't think you can compare the best commuter 4pot to a Rari lump . . . so compare a commuter Diesel Honda to whatever supercar power is complete nonsense . . . It's a ground to be explored. Ferrari developing a V8 hipo diesel, than we are getting somewhere . . .

Subaru is working on a boxer 6 diesel btw.

Too much sherry dinkel.

Off to the sin bin:

www.caravanclub.co.uk/

PS It's the sort of thing Subaru should, maybe, do. Not Lambo or Ferrari. Or any other top notch builder (Porsche 997 Diesel anyone? Thought not). Now stop this, and make cars lighter. It's the way forwards.

To "prove" it, name your circuit, I'll let you know when I'm back in the UK and we can go and play. 50yrs of design and builders still rarely know how to do it better...

Agreed, but what I mean Murph, when you say

"Compare them (Honda / Bmw diesels) to the very best petrol engines"

Supercars with dieselcars are not here and won't be in the future. You cannot compare a supercar engine to a very good diesel because there isn't anything to compare it with.

I remember this:

"Vom Wankel zum Diesel.
Der erste C 111-II mit der Seriennummer 31 wurde auf einen 3ltr, 190PSTurbodiesel-Motor umgerüstet.
Folgende Rekorde wurden auf der Rennstrecke Nardo 1976 vom C 111-II Diesel aufgestellt
     10km  :220,619km/h     10Meilen : 227,353km/h
   100km  :251,148km/h   100Meilen  :252,875km/h
   500km  :254,086km/h   500Meilen  :252,930km/h
 1000km  :253,307km/h   1000Meilen :252,737km/h
 5000km  :252,903km/h   5000Meilen :252,540km/h (Weltrekord)
10000km :252,249km/h (Weltrekord) 10000Meilen 251,798km/h (Weltrekord)

ferner 1h  :253,770km/h             12h  :253,616km/h
         6h  :252,578km/h             24h  :253,030km/h Schnitt"

Excuse my french . . .

It's a long time ago. But it proves that a powerfull diesel in a Quatroporto / 7-series / Roller or whatever -ish can mean something. Highspeed travelling with a big torqy diesel, mmh no problem with that.

I don't have a family as such (folks and a sister but no wifey and kids) so I can still be pretty selfish with my wheels. Many would say that's just me anyway and would be even if I had a harem and 20 kids

I think my advice, not that it's asked for, would be to either flog the Chim' and buy a cheaper toy for you to get very occasional adrenalin rushes with, or flog it and buy something the whole family can enjoy as an occasion.
Indeed. I have a 2 wheeled restoration project sitting in the garage already waiting for some attention. I'm spoilt anyway with the A8 as my "other" car, so no-one would lose out if the Chim went, so maybe come spring it'll be time to find a new home for the Tiv.
